You have to wonder if Bobby was surrounded by better front 7 pieces and an upgraded DC if it would be advantageous to sign him for one more year. This team needs leaders, mentors in the wake of coming changes & BWers don't grow on trees.

I would pass. He is still the #1 LB against the run, but his complete inability in zone coverage creates too big of an exploitable hole in the defense.

Besides, this DL needs to be improved to the point they are not counting on the LBs to make the stop on 90% of run plays. The amount of overall value contributed by a run stuffing LB will drop appreciably when that happens.

Why couldn’t they utilize him as a 4-3 end in passing situations? He at least sets the edge. He can’t cover in space any longer. We would still get his leadership on the field

Re-sign him, take him out for 3rd downs which is usually passing downs.
Muthafkn this right here!!!!

Teams know when they need that guaranteed play…typically 3rd down…they target the middle of that zone. Bobby can’t handle that responsibility.

It’s like JA on a TE. No bueno.

Good idea Mizak!!

Exactly all of this. I'll have him on the team and just send him out there on crucial downs where his brain is the advantage. He's the master at getting everyone into position. Ride the bench, get paid, go after the QB, every so often. Not asking much here. For him it'd be kinda boring, lol. Give him a T-shirt cannon, he can slang hawks merch. Who wouldn't want to shoot someone in the face with a t-shirt...

You gotta love Bobby Wagner. Consummate pro. Even if he's slowed down for pass defense, he's still a tackling machine. First ballot HOFer.

I think people overvalue pass defense for linebackers. Their job in pass defense is to survive. If they were good at pass defense they’d be defensive backs. Bobby does a sensational job at what a middle linebacker is made for and that is being a tackling machine and the “qb of the defense”. He’s definitely lost a step but we were lucky to have him out there. If not for many of his plays we’d be drafting higher than we already are. Although I’m sure for some that’s the point.

Bobby has the Green dot on the back of his helmet, which means he is the only player on defense that recieves radio transmissions from the sideline directly into his helmet for defensive alignments. He can't be taken out on 3rd downs, unless that role is given to a different player entirely.
