....and here's your .NET Whipping Boy for 2014.

Only week 2, plenty of time for a new challenger to emerge!

Some of you are ridiculous as if you know exactly what a first rounder is supposed to be. Sometimes there are people with potential in the draft that you absolutely have to have and Irvin seemed to be that. I still have hope for him under Pete and Schneider. We have enough talent for him to still develop, so I dunno why we have to ask that question now.

Based on your post you didnt watch last season.

2 sacks from a pass rush specialist, on a team where you get plenty of chances to rush the passer.

He is a below average pass rusher, plain and simple.

From your posts, it seems you didn't watch last season...

Sure, what you type sounds good logically, but facts don't back it up. Irvin got a lot less opportunities and got good pressure in those.

According to PFF:

Bennett 384 pass rush snaps 65 pressures (5.91 snaps per pressure)
Avril 367 pass rush snaps 46 pressues (7.98 snaps per pressure)
Irvin 112 pass rush snaps 18 pressures (6.22 snaps per pressure)

He had 8 sacks as a rookie, but the Coaches werent impressed with him so we went and got Avril and Bennett.

Again, sounds good in theory, but can be explained away...it could be due to Irvin's inability against the run and not pass rush. Also, Clemons questionable return from injury at an older age. Theres no stats to prove anything here...

Some of these players just are a gamble. He could be the next Von Miller or a decent rotation player. A wash IMO

Too be fair , on that 3rd down pushing Rivers play, seemed like Rivers kinda flopped, I thought.

Irvin covers the flat and pushes plays inside he has the speed to turn a back to the inside versus beating him around the edge, he lines up and can do both rush and play that side. He may not be a high count tackler but thats not his job, it's contain. He allows the DE on his side to simply go and not have to check run first also.

That's not a fair comparison. Irvin was only used as a pass rusher on 3rd and longs and obvious passing situations. Completely different from from Avril and Bennett who were every down linemen.

To be fair though Bruce Irvin was a starter of 12 games after his suspension at SLB.

Bennett and Avril were more pass-rushing specialists behind starters Bryant and Clemons.

I think this thread boils down to your opinion on first and second round picks. Should they produce right now or is okay for them to develop? Your answer to this question is your answer to this thread and many more.

We all have our own expectations. Mine is what Pete and others created for me right after drafting Irvin. I expected a 600 snap, double digit sack man, a major contributor to our defense, a starting Leo. So far, none of that has come true.

This is Year 3, and time to put up or shut up.
