Lane is a problem child and doesn't understand the concept of team.

Boy the Hawks are desperate throwing more high round draft picks for a 1 and a half year rental of a 33 year old tackle who best playing days are 2 seasons in the past. This guy better be good to make this trade worth the cost considering all the starters the Hawks have drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds over the years who they barely have to pay compared to Brown

It's highly unlikely he leaves us after next season. Schneider said he'd like to see him retire here. That sounds like 3 years minimum. It just takes time to work out the details of a contract like that.

If Lane can’t pass a physical why not just reach an injury settlement and cut him lose?

They need to get at least 4 solid seasons out of him to make this trade worth the cost. Or one SuperBowl title.

we can cut him loose, but as he was on the roster week 1, he can still collect his full salary for the year. Basically we are out the almost $2 million in salary no matter what we do with him.

I don't know what his attitude is like, but if it's not where it needs to be then we should cut him loose and eat the salary. Otherwise we should cut one of the backup linemen. I am certain we'll have the answer pretty soon, because we can't have a 54 man roster.

I was just thinking that since he failed a physical, it wouldn't be impossible to put him on IR for the year then cut him in the off season when he passes a physical. This would keep him from signing elsewhere for the rest of the season. Kind of a jerk move to do it, and I don't think our front office is like that, but it's an option.

We have 11 lineman, two of which have never even been active. Seems like a no brainer. Challenge is Lanes attitude about coming back. He was already a problem, then moved on, and is now back. Yikes.

That's pretty much where I'm at. Lane is fine for depth for the season...especially since we have to pay him anyway. Nobody here can really judge his attitude, but it is a question mark. Hopefully the front office takes it into account when making the decision.

Damnit I’m bummed we couldn’t get rid of Lane. Why did he have to fail his physical and cost us a 3rd rounder lmao.

Still think it’s worth it since Duane Brown will help make this O-Line WAY better this year. Even more worth it if we win 52.

Hyperbole much?

He is 32 years old, and adding a year to bolster your argument only weakens it.

He is NOT 2 years past his prime. He was a Pro Bowl Alternate in 2016. He played the whole game Sunday after sitting out and only gave up 1 sack. And even then the Guard pointed to himself like it was his fault. But the sack was charged to Duane.

This guy is one of the best Left Tackles in the NFL, and per Mark Schlereth, who saw the game Sunday, he's a "Dancing Bear."

And who cares what he costs? He's protecting our "priceless" franchise Quarterback.

This is bad for everyone involved.
Except the Texans.

And the Seahawks who still a get a Pro Bowl caliber LT.
This is true, but we're talking about giving up a 3rd instead of Lane+5th

but we are also getting a 5th. So it is a 2nd and 3rd for a all pro LT and a 5th not a bad trade

best playing days are 2 years behind him? Please show me proof of that?

Per draft experts, a pick that is 2 years out, is devalued by one round. Example, a 2019 2nd round pick, is actually valued the same as a 2018 3rd round pick.

So we gave up two 3rd round picks for a ProBowl LT, instead of wasting them on Offensive Line prospects when we've seen that fail.

PLUS, we don't have to wait until the draft! We get him NOW!

It's super bowl or bust with this move. :2thumbs:
And I agree that would be worth it. I'm thinking they see 2 years min. 3-4 if their lucky.

And he is 32 BTW not 33. Adding a year to make the point is suspicious.

He is like a bad penny. Wonder what the added pick(s) are?

From a 5th to a 3rd. 2nd in 2019 stays the same.

They will need to dig up more $$ to keep Lane as Houston would have paid the remainder of this season. I wonder where that $$ would come from?

We also get their 5th in 2018.

Duane Brown + 2018 5th

For

2019 2nd + 2018 3rd

Think about it, that was our 5th!
They only swapped the 5th for a 3rd. You are over thinking this.
