Prior to the arrival of Spiller, no running back had contributed diddly to special teams. C.J. Spiller participated in 3 special team snaps verses the Jets. The rest? Still nothing.

This ^ Spiller has the ability to return kick-offs & punts, and give Lockett some time to get back to 100%.
I could be wrong, but I believe that was Pete's train of reasoning for going after Spiller.

I just want to see that play-action wheel route pass from across the formation again. We used to destroy the Cards and the Niners with that play. At one time, I referred to it as "the play".

You remember... Fake handoff and a roll to the right with the line pushing right and receiver routes all sprouting from the right, then a lob back across the entire mess to a wide open Marshawn on the left.

Love that play.

Does this look like the play you are trying to describe? In this video, it is called "gun waggle right throwback".

It is the second example shown (starting at 0:16) from this linked video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUo819FU1Bc

Alex Collins has 7 carries in a total of 4 games....that's less than 2 carries per game. Not enough to make any kind of judgment. He strikes me as the workhorse back type that gets better as the game gets going and more touches he gets. He hasn't gotten much and he's still a rookie. Rawls would have been in the same boat had Lynch not been injured last year. I bet the same folks who are trashing Collins would be saying the same about Rawls.

There's a reason he's still on the roster and many others aren't.

Collins just hasn't found Tom Cable's "dark crease" yet. It took 'Shawn the better part of a year. And CMike has just found it this year. IMO

and while fifth-round pick Alex Collins got some time, it was Michael who showed not only an explosiveness, but an ability to operate in the cracks of Seattle’s run-blocking scheme. The dark creases. That’s what offensive line coach Tom Cable calls them, and Michael showed an ability to run right off his guard’s hip into the mosh pit and keep churning.

As I understand it, the "dark crease" is the spot where the hole will be but not until you get there.

Go Hawks,
BillA

Addendum:
Seattle running backs are asked to hit “dark creases” — designated spots in the line where a hole might not exist one second before opening the next.
