I like the idea of the San Diego State Offensive Coaches. Their running game the last 2 years has been phenomenal.

San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny goes off for four TDs and school-record 429 yards

In addition, Long said some schools have contacted him about quarterbacks coach Blane Morgan in regard to open offensive coordinator positions.

Truth, all he does is whine and moan like a 5 year old all day long.
He does and he is annoying as hell, but he is one of the the very few in the Seattle sportsmedia that admitted long ago that DB was not very good at his job. Bob, Groz, and Tom are pretty much in mourning that their buddy (DB) got the axe. I thought Brock was going to cry on the air this morning. Hugh seemed depressed as well.

The Hawks just got better today! Book it!

Well I guess they will have to really figure out the design of plays now rather then just using a napkin, their job just got harder.

Norv Turner if he's available.

You all want these tired, old names that have been fired and hired ten times over

How about a fresh name? Seems to me some of the hot new coordinators(Sean McVay comes to mind, as does Kyle Shanahan) started out as unknown commodities. McVay was this young gun who got promoted to OC with the Skins. There was no great history on how great he'd be

I for one want someone with fresh ideas. A new guy, possibly a QB coach... considered to be brilliant within coaching circles. And will be fired up to design a great system for Hustle Russell. Enough of all these known "safe" names, if you want success you take RISKS :stirthepot:

Amen - looking over some of the ideas is like a trip down the laziest memory lane.

Hire this nerd!
Pete Carmichael
Pete Carmichael, Jr.

One of the most brilliant offensive minds in football. Has worked with an undersized QB. Dominant zone rushing attack. Extremely creative & practical. Could be hired as OC if the Seahawks promote him to ACH. It's an opportunity to blaze his own trail outside the shadow of Sean Payton.

What about Mike McCoy. OC for the Broncos and made Kyle Orton look like a great QB, and changed the whole Offense to make Tim Tebow work

After the 2008 season, Mike McCoy was hired to be the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of the Denver Broncos.[9]

In 2009, then-Broncos QB Kyle Orton enjoyed a career year under McCoy, posting career highs in virtually every passing category. The following year, the Broncos passing attack ranked seventh in the NFL, and Orton ranked fourth in the league in passing yards per game.

McCoy revamped the Broncos offense in 2011 to accommodate Tim Tebow's skill-set, and the Broncos led the NFL in rushing

I like it.

From 2016

A few things you may not have noticed if you aren’t paying close attention to the New Orleans Saints this year:

Their offense looks as good as ever. They’re leading the NFL with 434.5 yards per game and a phenomenal third-down conversion rate of 53 percent. Their yards gained, points scored and Drew Brees' passing yardage, passer rating and touchdown pace all rank among the three best in the Brees-Sean Payton era.

The offensive coordinator’s name is Pete Carmichael Jr. You probably already knew that last one. But then again, maybe you didn’t.

Might as well include 2009 too, since they won a Super Bowl in Carmichael's first year as OC.

2009 OC of NO = #1 YPG #1 PPG

He's not calling plays all the time, but he does design them. When he has called plays, the Saints offense has been excellent.

The big question though is how much did Carmichael really have to do with that vs Sean Payton? I'd still be interested in him though if for nothing more than to see what he could bring by working with Payton and Brees.

Another guy I'd like to see them look at for similar "Organizational Knowledge" is Edgar Bennett from GB. I feel like they made sort of a knee jerk reaction getting rid of guys after losing their starting QB. Even with a backup QB they had a chance at making the playoffs this season. Also I'd like to see if he could bring some of the knowledge on why GB plays us so tough every year and seems to be able to turn RW into a turnover machine...

It is in his best interest to get out from under Sean Peytons shadow.

Make him the highest paid OC ever.

Good article. This quote from Drew Brees is telling:

“He’s one of those guys that has the respect of this whole locker room. I just can’t even begin to tell you the value that he provides.”

When you watch Carmichael's press conferences, you can see how analytical he is and how hard he works to make the most out of their weapons.

He would almost never consider using Jimmy Graham as an in-line blocker, for example. Carmichael didn't even like it when defensive ends would "nudge" Jimmy Graham when he was trying to release on his routes.

"[Jimmy Graham's] access to the route is not as clean as it has been in the past. And we can help him out: opening him up, getting him in different locations, and trying to get him some free access."
