edit: Here's my rule and a good one IMHO.
NEVER loan what you can't afford to give away. That way you can move on if you get stiffed.

This whole thing smells like a dead fish.
Why would Geno agree to do a camp but demand 600$ plane ticket and motel room?
If the story is true that his brother got hurt, I can understand the no show but " come on man" these guys make enough money that $600 should not be an issue for either one.

IMHO there has to be more to it than that.

Supposedly the defender was one of the standout performers on the Jet defense during the preseason, or at least an up and comer.

Might be worth bringing him in if he is the pass rusher they were excited about him being, say what you will about the Jets but their defense had some pretty good pieces in place.

Also, football player punching another player over stupid crap is not exactly that uncommon.

There was a stellar (guy went on to become an all-Pro for Bears OL( that broke the jaw of a player, the guy who got his jaw broken was named Wiggs. Was projected to have an NFL career but that sealed it.

The puncher? Had a long and successful career in the NFL as an OL.

And to be truthful, if Geno was stiffing the guy for $600 AND made him look like an ass by no-showing with no-warning (which I hope is not the case) then yes he absolutely would have deserved to be punched in the mouth.
