Just asking for a friend, were any of you around in 2012 ?
Yes, and in that offseason the Seahawks signed Matt Flynn, a young QB with limited experience to compete with Tarvaris Jackson. They made a choice to pick QB Russell Wilson in the Draft. They weren't forced into picking a QB because they only had 1 QB on the roster. Things obviously worked out exceptionally well, and if they hadn't picked Wilson they might have ended up with Nick Foles or Kirk Cousins.Just asking for a friend, were any of you around in 2012 ?
You think they had only 1 QB and felt desperate? Howell or so many others could have been had this year, they got who they wanted. They have cheap players based on the relative market at the moment, can cut either and not take a huge hit if a guy they like drops to them, this is a chess match where Check Mate was had. They win in their minds with whomever they go with.Yes, and in that offseason the Seahawks signed Matt Flynn, a young QB with limited experience to compete with Tarvaris Jackson. However in an alternate timeline in another Universe they didn't sign Flynn, all of those 3 rookie QBs were picked before the Seahawks 3rd round pick, they ended up with 6th round rookie Ryan Lindley as the back-up to Jackson, who got hurt and everything went to s**t.
In yet another timeline they don't sign Flynn and consequently felt compelled to reach for QB Brandon Weedon at #15.
They weren't desperate. They got a QB they wanted. I'm sure there were multiple other QB choices they would have been happy with. I believe that not signing a back-up to Smith would have been a mistake. The FA QBs, and those available by trade, would have been gone by the Draft and it would have increased pressure to sign a QB, (any QB), when better or preferred Draft prospects were available. You think they had only 1 QB and felt desperate?
