I recall celebrating quite a few Lockette plays last year.
As a gunner, he's damn good. We all know he can get down field, but he is also a solid tackler and always seems to have great awareness of what is going on.
As a WR, he's nothing special but can be useful. Seems as if they like to throw those short, quick passes to him and he's done okay with that. It's not like we cut any receivers that are currently better than him. You can argue that Williams/Smith have more potential as a WR, but we don't know for sure or how long it will take to develop them. If either was likely to develop into a better WR than Baldwin or Kearse, I could see getting rid of Lockette, but we know that's not the case and I don't know how smart it would be to gamble on slightly improving our #4 or #5 WR at the expense of a proven difference maker on special teams.
