Doubt Ireland's advice will weigh that heavy on picks. Their board is already pretty much done.

End of the day, it's still the JS and Pete show.

apparently him and Schneider are good friends, I don't see the problem with hiring him as just as a consultant. Its not like he'll have power over PC/JS

While we read the mainstream media about the some oafish questions Ireland has asked in the past.. that part of the process is over for the most part so I don't think there is much to worry about.. he very well could be there bc of the relationships he has with other HQ people on other teams.. this could be valuable when we are looking to trade etc..

Plus who the hell are we to question the opinion of JS when it comes to putting together a staff of competent professionals.

How the draft will go

Ireland: I think we should get player x
Schneider: shut up and bring some donuts
Carroll: with sprinkles
Ireland: fine

I highly doubt he'll have any real impact on this draft. Too close to the date.

The board is probably about 90% set and Ireland is just another voice in the mix to finalize it. He also might have some knowledge about AFC front offices that will help JS and PC seek trading partners. Ultimately, though, he's not going to have any real say in the draft so I don't see the big deal in his hiring, one way or another.

Same way I look at it.

He's a draft consultant. Perhaps he'll have some insight/connections with other NFL personnel specialists. Somebody who can actually help on draft day.

Ireland looks like a panic move to fill the hole left when we lost McLoughlin. I think this team is going to miss McLoughlin.

I understand there are rumors about the guy, but they should have done whatever it took to keep him. Short of running a dog fighting ring, as long as he got results he should have been kept.

He clearly produced results with the 49ers and he clearly produced results here. I have to assume that at least some of the great success rate we had with low round picks came from his inclusion. Not sure Ireland brings any of that to the table.

This is where the deviation from the standard (in how successful our picks in late rounds have been vs the average team success rate at same) starts to track back to the average. Then again, we got our SB so the rest is just gravy.

But they should have done anything to keep McLoughlin, even if he was staggering to work with heroin needles in his arm....as long as he got the results that his position exists to produce, it should not have mattered.

the substitution of Ireland for McLoughlin is not really anything but a net negative.

Bad bad offseason so far. Ick.

There is so much about the draft, all the phone calls etc, he may be a consultant for a number of things, value, potential trades, and connections with other teams front office to gleen information.

Besides being a lousy GM doesn't mean your a Lousy talent evaluator. You can judge a player correctly but if the owner, coach and whom ever else has their hand in the cookie jar say a Parcells says no and pick someone else you look bad .

I think they may also be looking at what evaluations he may be strong at, could be linemen.

Also with Tate in Detroit someone has to run to the Donut store.

Heard that he has connections with JS going back to their days in KC. I'm sure his role will be a limited one.

Why do people still doubt what J/S and Coach Pete do still? I do not get it! We just won a Super Bowl folks I think they had a lot to do with that.

So much knee-jerky reaction still going on with this fan-base. I know Ireland's time in Miami as the GM was not good, but prior to that, as not the head guy, he had a stellar reputation as a talent evaluator. Also of note, John and Pete seem to have a pretty good handle on what they are doing.

Ireland is Timmay Ruskell, if Ruskell didn't give a shit about character concerns.

Hope this has no impact.

Weird atmosphere around this team right now and I hope Ireland stays far far away from our draft board.

Really don't like this guy, but as long as he's not the GM it won't be that big of a deal.
