We have a stable of DB's in the wings to get up to speed, Lane solidifies our secondary at the start of the season unlike last year, we may make mistakes but we learn from them it appears. This means we can go after O line in both F.A. and or the draft without needing to fill a spot in the secondary.

What stable of DBs?

Richard Sherman
Jeremy Lane
Marcus Burley
DeShawn Shead
Tharold Simon
Tye Smith

George Farmer
Mohammad Siesay
Trovon Reed
Stanley Jean-Baptiste

After Shead, it takes a drastic drop in talent. Right now the 13 DB, are still far better and deeper.

Tye Smith is just coming off his rookie season. But he looked good when he played in the preseason. There appears to be some talent there.

Tharold Simon certainly has raw talent. He had the best receptions allowed per snap rate in the NFL in 2014 before his injury. Sherman has said some glowing things about Simon. We will see how he plays in the final year of his rookie deal.

Simon is going into his 4th year, at some point we have to admit he's not going to be a player for us.

IMO our top 2 FA priorities have been locked up! So happy that Lane is staying

It took Thurmond a few seasons to get rolling also, needed to stay healthy and the improvement was in leaps and bounds.

If Simon plays like he did before his injury, then the depth at corner is going to be absurd.

The good news is they are not counting on Simon to be great. At this moment, I would put Lane, Burley, and Shead all ahead of Simon.

If Simon can stay on the field, the LOB is back in a big way

By that logic you would have given up on Maxwell and Thurmond too.

:0190l: Happy Lane is locked up. It definitely helps solidify the secondary. They play better as a unit when they trust each other. We've seen what happens when they don't, they try to do too much to cover for the weak link and end up with a mess. The DBs as well as the WR seem to function better with home grown talent.

Great signing.

The defense really hit it's stride last year when both Shead and Lane got on the field together. I love Lane's versatility, and like others have said, this gives us two guys that have started and played well for us, both with experience in the system, to start next year out with.

It's going to give young guys like Seisay, Simon, Smith and Farmar a chance to develop. This is good for continuity next year as well as developing talent for years to come. And we get Lane for 4 years to boot. Nice. Biggest sign of our offseason right here.

Whoa whoa whoa... You can't say things like "Happy Lane is locked up." This is the NFL and it's the offseason, that could be construed many ways.

It kinda sucks to see Irvin, Mebane and Sweezy leave. Still a weird feeling to see them play for someone else next year.

On the other hand though, Rubin and Lane were the two most important of our FAs and we signed them both. This makes my day.

And five of those players were drafted by the Seahawks.

?

Also, Jermaine Kearse was a UDFA and I'd have thought he'll get Lane money, or close to it, whatever it is.

All them were drafted by the Hawks, they just had no patience with Howard.

Yeah, I just misworded that. With nine picks in this coming draft, we could use another stellar draft class like that one.
