He was the 10th pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, the 9th WR taken that year. He was drafted by the Jaguars, and traded to the Panthers in 2022.

Damn x ray, you're extra negative today. Even for your standards. This is a zero risk pick up. He either makes the team or he doesn't. It doesn't impact anything either way.

One year, veteran minimum, so very low risk. I think that it was smart to get a replacement for DJ Dallas since we can't rely on Dee Eskridge to be healthy and effective as the only kick returner.

There will be two players there for kick returns. Who will be the other returner?

We are discussing this on the Bears forum. Gale Sayers returned kicks. Why not let better players return kicks? The new rules are designed to reduce injuries on kickoffs.

If the new rules prevent the kick returner from being hit by players flying full speed, I think you will start to see more running backs and receivers returning kicks. Especially if the new rules result in more chunk yards. And allow players to use their RB skills to find holes and break tackles. Yards are yards, no matter where they come.

The other question is whether more offensive linemen might be used on returns to create openings for returners, now that they don't have to pursue coverage players who are flying down the field.

Under the new rules, 10 players from the kicking team will line up on the return team’s 40-yard line and won’t be allowed to move until the ball lands or is recovered. Also, touchbacks will now be spotted at the 30-yard line instead of the 25-yard line, with the aim of discouraging teams from kicking the ball into the end zone.
