The offense is struggling, but...

... they aren't getting a whole lot of help with field position either.

  • -They are last in the league in percentage of drives (35%) starting inside the 20. For contrast, the Cowboys lead at 14%
-The defense isn't forcing turnovers to provide short fields. Going into today they were tied for 2nd worst at 6 turnovers while Minnesota leads at 16.
-They aren't getting much out of kick returns, ranking #26
-They're #21 in net punting, so losing the field position game on average

None of this is to excuse the offense, because they need to be much better, but it's tough to string together enough plays to go 80+ yards and score a touchdown. This is particularly true when the offensive line can't sustain blocks long enough to throw deep. (Last random stat - the Seahawks are tied for #26 in big play percentage, after being 3rd, 2nd, 1st and 3rd the last three years)

Start with a 1st down. Last few game we struggled getting many of these. I don't care where you're starting field positions is when it's 3 and out almost every drive..

the lack of a decent running game is really hurting us right now. the offense doesn't need to put up a ton of points but at least control the ball a little bit longer. we hardly use any clock on any of our drives.

Offense needs to get first downs AND defense could be "epic" before they let the other team get into field goal range.

Same thing said another way:
Offense has too many short drives and defense allows too many long drives.

If the offense was better, the defense could get more rest. And if the defense was better, the offense would get more chances to find rythm.

Weird how it's not 100% one thing?

And refs.
