Lane activated, Schilling to IR

Looks like Unger will start and Lewis is the backup at center.

Too bad for Schilling. But excited to see Lane back in the lineup.

That actually kinda hurts, with our thin line a guy like shilling with snaps under his belt is valuable.

Well last week Lewis showed that he was a capable backup, so not all that surprising. Although, really would have thought that one of the extra DBs, like Terrell, would have been the one to go.

What exactly is "designated to return list"?

A team can place one player on IR with a "designation to return", meaning he can come off IR after six weeks.

Okung is probable, but Carp is doubtful, according to the team injury report. Cam is doubtful. Does anyone know if he'll play?

Thanks, but does it also mean that he can only hold that spot for six weeks?
Or can he stay there until healthy or they move him again, to another list.

And to amplify, everyone else that goes on IR is done for the season... you get one special slot that is "IR with designation to return" i.e. you can come back.

The rules are actually a bit complicated. He can practice after six weeks, I think, but must be activated within nine weeks... so for Lane, I believe he practiced all last week and possibly could have been activated for Oakland but he must be activated for the Giants game -- or he's gone for the year. There's basically a narrow window where he can come back because of the "designated to return" language.

Kam is doubtful but a game time decision. Jeron Johnson will likely get his first start.

Just so you read it right. Says activated from that list. So he is normal activated player at this point.

Nope, we definitely lose some physicality, but Jeron's just as much of a ball hawk. Always though he looked like starter material in his limited reps, and always looks great in preseason. Knows the system better than Shead so I expect us to improve from last week in that respect.

That is good news that Unger is coming back but we will be in deep dodo should he re injure himself.
