Avg 5.5 Sacks over last two years with only a few starts. Seems like a really good back end role player which gives us more flexibility in the draft.

Green
Collier
Irvin
Mayowa
? Clowney or Griffen
? Draft pick

Not sure what to make of this concerning other possible signings.

I always thought he had potential. He had a couple splash plays iirc, but was a depth casualty. IIRC he got snatched up right away when he was released. Guess we'll see.

I remember the name, but yeah, not a star. With a shortened off season, maybe they figure he has some familiarity?

Clayton seems to think this signing signals the Seahawks are pursuing Emerson Griffin.

Welcome aboard Benson Mayowa.

I liked him the first time around. Un-drafted tryout competitor. He didn't stick the first time around because of numbers in the final cut down of 2014. [tweet]https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1245495726601355273[/tweet]
........ he is experienced now and in his prime years. ......... smart timely signing.

He was not a star because we were so loaded it would be tough to stand out amongst the other beasts we had.
He would have been a nice rotational piece last year.

This signing signals to me that Clowney isn't happening.

If anything it seems the team or Clowney is moving on. I don’t think they make this signing if the team was close to signing Clowney. Flipping A!!! Not feeling good!

I don't think it signals that. Mayowa is a cheap rotational piece who has shown that he has some juice off the edge, and he looked good while he was here years ago. The line needs additional support regardless of whether Clowney signs or not, and this helps.

Signing Mayowa signals to me that they're wanting depth at Leo. This allows them to have Bruce Irvin be a hybrid OLB/Leo like before. It also provides them more flexibility to line Clowney inside on pass downs without sacrificing too much heat off the edge.

I like this signing. Watched him in a few games last year with the Raiders. He is very likely better than any 1st round DE draft prospect not names Chase Young.

Hopefully this means we will not focus on DE's in the draft for the first 3 rounds (at least).

De. Didn't have one start with the RAIDERS last year.

Let that sink in. The Raiders.

He had 10 QB hits and 7 sacks last year. If he duplicates that as a situational pass rusher it's a crazy bargain.
