I don't see how. The extra pick was so the Giants covered Williams salary. They are also 2 different style players, Williams can help shore up the interior.
Yes, that was just me overreacting, as usual. Although I'm still disappointed that the 49ers got Chase Young.

In some ways, I think that Lynch has gone against that old proverb, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

He took last year's number one defense in the NFL, and completely overhauled the D-line, which was one of its strengths, and signed Javon Hargrave and Clelin Ferrell in free agency, let Charles Omenihu and Samson Ebukam walk, traded for Randy Gregory and now Chase Young. And the defense isn't better, it's worse.

He probably makes them better, but there is some amount of diminishing returns here. A CB could have really helped them out, though.

I'm told frequently on here that declining an option doesn't matter in regards to Jordyn Brooks.
Brooks 5rh year option would have been $12.7M, with the entire hit in 2024. Seahawks don't have the cap space.

I'm pretty sure PCJS will find a way to bring him back next year without killing the cap.

I wonder why the 49ers didn't trade their 2nd pick for Montez Sweat, who is clearly a better player than Chase Young? I'm sure this must be a topic for discussion at 49erwebzone. Care to shed any light on this, 49er fans? @49fansinceBrodie, @Weadoption?

I mean, in either case, it's a rental. The price is higher for Sweat, but not by that much.

Chase may help some, hopium!!
We used to have a guy named Nick Bosa but i think he retired.

Chase Young is overrated.

He has 6.5 sacks since the end of 2020 and is a perennial underachiever. His reputation is built on his draft slot and his prototypical build.

In reality, he has been largely a bust, and is a reclamation project.

This does not make the Leonard Williams trade look worse. Leonard has built a productive career, and continues to be productive. Young... well, 1.5 sacks over 2021 and 2022 combined? With THOSE teammates?

He's overrated. He's massively overrated.

We're talking 14 sacks. In his CAREER. This is his FOURTH SEASON.
he's the modern Jadaveon Clowney imo, all hype no real production.

Also.. some of ya'll need to step away from fantasy football lol. Too many people here are chasing and wishing and wanting players... that otherwise put up FF Stats, but in game doesn't or hasn't amounted to much if at all.

Eh, I think this would be a fair assessment if it came before the season. But he's ranked 8th in QB pressures with 38, and he has five sacks this season. He's injury-prone, but when healthy, he's a stud.

I think it's still a fair assessment, given that he has shown wild inconsistency coupled with being injury-prone. Still bust territory, and still way overrated by the average fan as evidenced by reactions to the trade by general fans on, say, Twitter.

The problem with this thinking is he has hardly played the last 2 years. He is right at the 2 year mark now after tearing his ACL, about the time players get back to normal.

He is a scary player when healthy and coming off the edge opposite Bosa will be a nightmare for most teams. Teams need great tackle play and/or TE blocking as well.
It’s like…no one sees your post.

I agree with you.

According to the comments section in several articles in The Athletic, Commanders fans are pretty happy to see Young go. From the 49ers standoint, he's essentially free because they'll get a similar comp pick back for the pick they gave up. Definitely not expecting this trade to make an impact

I get the sentiment, but it's kind of like trading for Penny in the middle of his 2021 stretch

Like, yeah, he's good, but he really hasn't been able to put it together at all yet.

Don't get me wrong, if Seattle got him I'd be excited that he's a prototypical edge defender with obvious talent. You hope he can put it together. But I think it was a fair price for him and I'd absolutely rather have Leonard, and think it makes sense that he was worth more

He was only a 3rd because he isn't very good. Williams is a better
