Young was on the block quite a while. I don't know if no one bit because the previous asking price was high or if it's because of his decreased level of play. Point is we had plenty of chance to get him if we wanted him and passed on the in favor of someone we're hoping to have longer term. Somehow I have a hard time seeing such a move by SF having "longer term" attached. If it does, I see some serious restructuring in store for Bosa.

As opposed to all the sacks Williams has racked up the past few years.
I'll have to look him up too, don't know a thing about the guy. Couldn't even spell his name if you asked.

Sidenote (a little chiefed, so follow along)* I'm not sure I would pay my DT to get sacks. I need a more well rounded, nuanced player at that position to be honest.

Sacks for the big men are just extra, ontop of bullying multiple dudes on the line and nabbing up halfbacks (to me of course). Outside of THOSE DUDES, ie: Aaron Donald MF, JJ Watt, Reggie White... I had to look at DTs with sacks, and they seem like an extremely rare breed. Most of those names were dudes that could do it all too, absolute hosses.

I get that Young has more hype than what he’s shown in the NFL thus far.

It’s him pairing with Bosa that has me a bit shook.

Chase is ranked 5th in QB Hurries this season w/ 9. 3 others players has 10. He was an elite his rookie year. Only started 6 games and has 5 sacks already this season. This also a contract year for him. Perfect guy to get for a rental and the 49ers got him basically for free. This trade should have been vetoed. Why would the Commanders trade Chase to the 49ers, probably a side deal w/ the owner.

Let's keep it real...

Huge value for the Niners for a 3rd. A nice pick up.

Can he keep Purdy from throwing picks though? That's where our window lies..

Not sure why people keep talking like the kid is a INT machine, kid has 5 in 13 games. Geno has 6 just this season, Hurts has 8, Mahomes has 8.

Remember that the Commanders declined the 5th year option on Chase Young. They were not sold on him, and were actively trying to trade him.

The reason why they didn't pickup the option was his health risk. It would have cost them 17.5million next year. They also had the option to franchise tag him for 20million in case he balls out. This was the best low risk to do for the organization this season. Chase was having a great season.

Trading him to the 49ers equal zero sense to me still. A top 5 team and the Commanders couldn't find any below average team wanting him? Colluding!

Young is a low motor guy. The effort he gives on some plays is appalling. Just flat out doesn't try. He's not what you would call a high motor guy. In fact, watching him reminds me of Frank Clark, even though they play different positions. Just that low motor that kicks into high gear only when the motivation is there.

Huge value? It depends. The fans over at the Commanders forums are nearly unanimous in their excitement to be rid of Young, despite the low, low price of a 3rd rounder. Some pointed out that the lackluster effort on the field was also evident in his college tape.

Makes you realize that's just what his worth might be, a 3rd rounder.

Huge value? I wouldn't go that far yet.

With his injuries, it’s hard to make an honest assessment here.

He’s definitely doing good this year but the entire body of work…

I don’t like the idea of Bosa on one edge and Chase, actually living up to the hype, on the other.

Whether he can do that or not….

I hate how good Bosa is. Moreso because he's on the 29ers. Ridiculous football player. Same with Kittle and Deebo.
I've also come to realize how good Fred Warner (Elite) and Dre Greenlaw are. Warner is simply a beast, all the time, but Greenlaw has been a particular thorn in the side for the Seahawks. It was Greenlaw who stopped TE Jacob what-his-name on the goal line to deny the Hawks the division a couple-three years ago. I also recall Greenlaw picking Russell on a play that was so smart for a LB in coverage; that was in a Monday night game when Greenlaw was a rook or soph. Very smart, tough player.

Anything that Chase Young contributes is going to be a huge bonus for the Niners with their otherwise very strong front 7. Maybe the trade will be a wake-up call and fresh start for Young the way being traded often is for NFL players. As a Hawks fan, I'm hoping Young is the same player for the Niners that he was for the 'Skins, er, Commanders.

No doubt, tons of talent on that team. Hoping for some cap hell like the Clams have dealt with. I'm not one of those who think that the Niners are magically a bad team because they lost 3 games. Minus a few of their best players.

Its huge value because its for about 500k and they can recoup the 3rd rounder the used as a comp next year if they don't sign him.

It’s a wasted rental for one year if no Lombardi comes of it. And your D line wasn’t the issue the issue is in your secondary bud. Knee jerk trade and Reminds me of the Sheldon Richardson move we made a few years back
