At first, I was on the Lock bandwagon and felt that he should be given the opportunity to start at least another game.

But when we go back and look at the brass tacks, take out that last drive and Lock had a very lackluster performance with only about 125 yards passing, missing a number of open receivers, and making some ill advised throws. He didn't perform well enough to unseat a starter, and there's an old adage that a starter should never lose his job to injury.

So yeah, go ahead and start Lock, but put Geno on a short leash.

Geno ? Why ?
Wouldn't it be more productive to share a researched and thought-out reason as to why NOT Geno?

Back up the claim with a combination of statistical evidence and your analysis of happenings during the games, perhaps?

This is a good post. Considerate of the full picture of the game and not swept away by subjective rhetoric.

He whipped it out when the chips were down, but I think our elation from a primetime comeback win has us forgetting that this felt like a losing effort for the majority of the game. Lock was averaging a net 3.5-ish yards per dropback until the final drive, if I recall correctly.

If DK doesn't make that circus catch where he pins the ball against himself and it doesn't hit the ground - what sort of conversation are we having right now? The discourse feels like it's being driven by a focus on outcomes that simply won't be reproducible on a consistent basis.

I still have my concerns about aspects of Lock's game. I think he removed much of my doubt as to his mental status and his overall makeup with his performance under pressure, but he's got so many fundamental quarterback behaviors to rework that it simply cannot be ignored.

Lot of good too, though. He can sling it even with sloppy footwork. He can operate in structure. He actually looked way better in structure. Obviously is working on developing rapport with the WRs.

If I limit my analysis to what I see from both quarterbacks when it comes to pocket presence, footwork, fundamental process, arm talent, accuracy, poise, and processing... I still gotta go Geno for now. Even with that Lock W that I nearly lost my voice screaming for.

And that's purely objective because, believe me, I do not want that damn cap hit in 2024. This should probably be Geno's last year here if he won't accept a decent paycut.

I liked a whole lot about what Lock did, but there were some limitations and I just can't call it a performance worth immediately usurping the starting spot on a team in the playoff hunt. It was no Russell Wilson 2012 preseason stuff, regardless of it being promising overall.

My entire argument against starting Lock over Geno relies on Geno being released 5 days or less after the SB to save $21.5M in cap.

Unfortunately, I now believe PC already has Geno penciled in as the starter next year, so the argument is moot. 😡🤢🤮

I'm preparing for another few seasons of .500 football with a vast majority of the games being overall ugly and unentertaining displays of ineptitude with no rational hope for future improvement. At least a few of the games will be well played and enjoyable to watch... too few.

Excitement about building for the future? With PC's decision making? Nope. No hope, there.

Do you not see PC/JS drafting a QB next year? I just can't see paying Geno that much coin with all the other holes and the obvious need to sign Big Cat.

They may or may not draft a QB, but Geno's contract is guaranteed 5 days after the SB. PC will keep his Golden Boys on the roster and any competition will be pre-decided.

This is how PC has rolled for years - Always Compete disappeared a long time ago.

I think Lock should be starting. Do I think Lock is better ? No. And that sucks because I was hoping he was possibly the future. One thing he did manage to do, where Geno has failed miserably, was to win a game on the final drive. I don't think Lock is better, but I'm not 100% sure. And that's why he should start. Geno sets a bar that needs to be surpassed. And if the Hawks are saying Lock can't, than I'm begging we go QB in round 1

Wow. A lot of 'What have you done for me lately?' revisionist history here. Geno has 3 game winning drive this season. Detroit, Cleveland, and Washington. Pick a lie that isn't easily disproven, next time.

Geno will be too expensive to keep around next year, for the product he gives us. He’s likely a little better than Lock, but probably only 1 to 2 games per season better.

I would like to see what Lock can do with the keys. A lot of the issues he had against Philly were due to a lack of time spent at the helm.

If I believed Geno could take us deeper into the playoffs, I’d be all on board with him starting. I don’t think we are getting past the first round, if we make it in at all, so may as well see what we have in Lock, so we know if it’s worth trying to re-sign him.

I doubt Geno's groin, elbow injuries are 100% healed up but hopefully close enough for his confidence, accuracy & mobility to give us a win. Audition time.

Best thing for Lock. If, Geno loses one game, there is a good chance Geno doesn't come back next season and Lock can get the start. If Geno wins out, there are people who will sign Lock for just that one performance as a starter.

All the pressure is on Geno. For some reason im worried about the Cardinals game.

That Cardinals game does feel like a trap game doesn't it?

You roll with Geno. Who has been QB for 6 of 7 wins this year. And those wins came behind a line composed mostly "next men up". I'd like to see Geno with better protection over three games and himself fully healthy. My theory is that he kinda got f'd up in the Giants game; I don't think he's been healthy since and though they point to the groin I think he had to shut it down for an accumulation of nagging injuries. Let's go Geno. Show your quality.

Come on Pitt, you think ALL games are a trap

No. It's the gut feelings. I felt they would beat Philly when there was truly no reason to think that way. In all probability, they beat Arizona and they should, but something just isn't feeling right in the gut for some reason.

When I heard that Kyler "Cry-ler" Murray is getting an endorsement from the Cardinals organization for the 2024 season I immediately thought "Great, just in time for him to play loose and care free an execute 20 yard options against us".

Because it's you. And that's fine. You see the negative in pretty much every game.
Yeah, Cryler has been SOOOOO amazing against the Hawks.

Maybe it has something to do with our horrid division record this year

Our inconsistency of play level makes every game a trap game, and our late season record against the Cards is far from bright and shiny. Titans have always seemed to find a way to upset us. I hear Henry will be right for this game. Can we contain him? That guy is a genuine beast!
