That reasoning would be valid if not for all of the game tape of wrs crossing in front of Russ in the short middle and him choosing not to go there and instead heaving the ball down the sideline 40 yards on a 3rd and 7.
And then in post game, PC saying 'I wish we could do a better job of just taking what's there' and deploring the offenses inability to figure out the Cover 2. He said on more than one occasion lastbyear that ' underneath' stuff was there...
Underneath = short throws inside the numbers
Short outside = just that

I agree that he, like most defensive minded coaches like Vrabel and others prefer a low risk attack. That doesn't mean you don't throw to open wr's when they're standing in front of you. Pete isn't Sean Mcvay. He also isn't an idiot.
