Low risk, too. Happy with the added competition, which was needed at WR.

If Marshall is healthy . . .
Baldwin (X/Y)
Lockett (X/Y/Z)
Marshall (Z)
Brown (X/Z)
Darboh (Z)
Potential 6th WR (Moore, Stringfellow, McEvoy, Grayson, Reynolds, or Scott)
That actually doesn’t look bad on paper.

I forgot about Marcus Johnson, who they traded a 7th round pick for in the Michael Bennett trade. Though I'm not confident he makes the roster.

Was waiting to hear the contract numbers before commenting. I think it's definitely a fair deal for both parties. It allows us to bring him in and evaluate him in our system without doing too much damage to our cap if he doesn't work out, while giving him the opportunity to prove himself worthy of more money if he were to have a good year again.

Odds are more likely that things will work out somewhere in the middle of those two scenarios, but I like the potential vs. the cost of this deal.

That’s right I forgot about him as well. He’s a speedy guy if memory serves.

To be honest, I'm not expecting much from Marshall and I won't be surprised if he doesn't make the final roster. That being said, for $2 mil max if he meets incentives, it's worth a shot.

Fair deal to give to a vet like Marshall. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the roster. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being our #1 or #2 receiver. Kinda crazy to think he signed a 2 year/$12MM contract just a year ago with NYG and now he's signing a 1 year that maxes out at $2MM.

Let's hope that ankle of his is right and he can be a contributor.

59 catches for 788 yards (13.4ypc) and 3 TDs in 2016 with the horrible Jets.
109 catches for 1,502 yards (13.8 ypc) and 14 TDs in 2015 with the horrible Jets.

I would have rather paid a little more for Maclin or Bryant if we're going to add a veteran WR.

But maybe this is good for both sides. Marshall is cheap and knows he has to behave and perform if he wants to make any more money playing football.

Hopefully he is coming to ball out and not to convalesce? Maybe this signing will help motivate the younger kids like Darboh?

And if one of the young guys beat him out, so be it. Let them all figure it out on the field. If he earns a spot, even better because it's not going to just be handed to him. Not on this team.

Old, yes.

But still a big target with good hands that can get separation. Not seeing any down side to this.

I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not thrilled by this. We have been burned too many times by free agent receivers in the past.

I do hope I'm proven wrong though.

Did we lose anything? Whats the problem? He provides leadership, experience, size and I think he still has a couple of good years left.

I just don't see any issue to this signing.

For a max of $2m? Hell yes.

That is about what we saved by not signing Hauschka last year. That $2M cost us a bunch of jobs and blowing up key members of the team.

Thank you again Blair Walsh. :irishdrinkers:

I agree. Even if they use Marshall solely in short yardage and red zone, he is worth $2 million if healthy. His size, physicality, jump balls, blocking, clutch plays, experience are all things the WR corps was missing. Question marks: age, injuries, dropped balls (10% in his career).

I think anything like those 2015 numbers are in his rear view mirror for good. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we saw something in the neighborhood of those 2016 numbers, but he's another injury and another year older than when he put up those numbers. But again, for the contract the Seahawks gave him, it's worth a shot.

FYI, the Jets actually had a pretty good passing offense in 2015. Marshall had a monster year and Eric Decker also had 80 catches for 1000+ yards and 12 TDs.

Only 66 passes thrown to Marshall in 2016 were labelled "catchable." He was also the 11th ranked run blocker among WRs.

If he ends up with 500+ yards and/or 5+ TDs, this was a steal.

Great signing. Marshall keeps himself in great shape and we're getting him for next to nothing. He's not making enough money for our coaches to feel compelled to keep the younger guys on the sidelines.
