Do we receive comp picks if any of our assistants are hired away by other teams?

You only get a pick(s) if one of your coaches or front office personnel gets hired as a Head Coach or GM.

Assuming they’re not white of course. Well actually you can be white as long as it’s not Euro white eg Hispanic or Middle Eastern. Im unclear on where the line is for black, to date it’s either 1/4 or 1/8th depending on which report you read.

Per NFL Network:

The policy enacted in 2020 states: "Clubs that develop a diverse employee who is hired in the position of Primary Football Executive or Head Coach at another club, will receive a draft choice compensation in the form of a compensatory draft pick in the third round in each of the next two drafts. If a club has two employees hired for either a head coach or GM position, then that club will receive third-round compensatory pick in the next three drafts."

So, if a team were to hire Clint Hurtt, for example, as a HC or a high level front office position, then yes. Shane Waldron, however, would not provide us a comp pick if hired as a HC.

Lateral transfers (like moving from the Seahawks as a DC to another team as a DC) would not qualify, no matter the diversity.

What happens if that minority hire ends up being a shitty hire? Maybe the team that lost that guy should lose a pick based on false advertising.

That policy expired after the 2021 draft.

EDIT: My statement above is false. I incorrectly interpreted the NFL policy change that enhanced compensatory picks to teams losing minority personnel to HC and GM positions with other teams. There is no expiration date.

For losing one person, the policy awards 3rd round compensatory picks in both of the next two drafts.

For losing two persons, the policy awards picks in all three of the next three drafts.

Where are you seeing that? SF received picks for McDaniel in 22/23.

Does anyone know the mechanics? Does the team have to submit for the comp pick or does the NFL maintain a database of employees who qualify as ‘minority‘?

Would be interesting to see the list, might be a few McDaniel type surprises on there.

These race based policies make me sick. Ethnicity should have no bearing on any decision. Hire the best man for the job, no matter what color his skin is, full stop. If you lose a coach and he becomes HC, you get a comp pick regardless of skin color, full stop.

See my edit in post #5 above. I was wrong.
