As is often the case, the cover up is worse than the crime. Even if the NFL gives a slap on the wrist when their investigation concludes, it won't reverse the impact on public opinion.

This is where both the Saints and Patriots got the bigger trouble from, particularly the Saints. The league front office is going to make the punishment worse if they effectively believe that they're being lied to.
totally agree. We see time and time again that it's not the crime that's the huge issue. It's the cover up.

Maybe go back 15 years and just look at kick offs. Those balls are the K balls and are under normal inflation. If those numbers are normal then that says alot.

And punts also.

Would probably have to go back a while but we have 8 years of deflategate and plenty more before that. Between punt and KO returns you can probably get a god feel for how average or not they might have been with normally inflated balls.

But if their punt and KO #'s don't look similar to the offensive fumble numbers then you have your smoking gun.

I personally do not believe in coincidence, everything happens for a reason, there is no such thing as random.

Stats of this nature are extremely damning. The probablity of this just happening is astronomical; especially finding out that

TOM FRICKING BRADY PETITIONED FOR THE CHANGE to allow the away team to bring their own balls. HE MADE THE CHEATRIOTS STRATEGY POSSIBLE.

there is no fricken way this trend happened.

If a kid 6' 180lb's showed up to play on your 10 year old kids opponent baseball team you would be suspicious but might consider that it is possible the kid is a freak but if it happened every year for 8 years straight and was a different kid every year you would never buy it.

Imagine if the trend suddenly started the year the coaches were alllowed to handle the vitamins for the team.

I wanted to provide a linked update in which Warren Sharp addressed some of the criticism directed at his statistical discoveries.

"Follow-up to Discuss Differing Studies Regarding the New England Patriots Fumble Rate Since 2000" >>> [urltargetblank]http://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/blog/2015/follow-up-to-discuss-differing-studies-regarding-the-new-england-patriots-fumble-rate-since-2000[/urltargetblank]

I also wanted to note lessons learned from vested interests who visited a number of threads here at .net for the sole purpose of "debunking" or discrediting independent findings.

#1 Beware of self proclaimed experts who identify themselves by beating their chests with credentials and assertions of superior intellect or school of thought.

#2 Numbers are often selectively massaged by vested critics to advance vested agendas. That includes members of academia and governing bodies whose findings are routinely skewed to align with the interests of sponsors. There is a clear difference between the work of independents as compared to vested interests.

#3 Math is not some obscure form a magic. So, dismiss anyone who portrays it as beyond the comprehension of the rest of us. Understanding it is a matter of doing the mental work. As a language, it is much more strait forward and elegant than English.

#4 Statistical anomalies invite investigation as to it's causes. They are not ignored.

Thanks for that link. I was really disappointed with the Pats fan PhD guy on Deadspin who just seemed like he just wanted to take shots instead of clearly explain what he was on about. The Sharp guy actually seems to *want* to be debunked, which seems like a pretty straightforward, honest way to go about it.
