You may be onto something lolLooks like a perfect NT.
I wonder how different the skillset is between run stuffing vs run blocking. Isn’t it pretty much just sumo deashi?Looks like a perfect NT.
I am curious too, can someone educate us please?I wonder how different the skillset is between run stuffing vs run blocking. Isn’t it pretty much just sumo deashi?
Some said Fluker has heavy feet, not quick and couldn't move well enough. In case of NT, his heavy feet wouldn't be as much a problem? Lol, I really don't know what I am talking about.IMO it’s not that different. Starting with youth football thru high school it’s common for players to play both ways. Back in the day I played OL/DL. I used to see it as a 1 on 1 confrontation the DL trying to beat his opponent to be in a position to stop the ball carrier when playing OL making sure the guy you are blocking doesn’t beat you. If everybody on offense did their job perfectly they would score a TD on every play. No need to pancake your opponent ( even though it’s cool to do) just get in his way.
I think more falls on if the said player is motivated enough to do it with Fluker as a 0/1 tech just occupy blocks and keep O line off of the LBs. Look for old Raven games when they had Haloti Ngata he is my favorite DT. As a true NT probably either Casey Hampton or Vince Wilfork.
I seem to remember another D.J. Fluker that used to play. Is this guy his son?
Depends on if the DC wants a penetrating NT or just occupy blocks and keep the LBs clean. If it’s the latter I would give it a try in that case you don’t care if the NT even makes a tackle you would be using your LBs as play makers. If the offense feels they have to use 3 offensive linemen to move the NT as a defense you have won the battle any decent NT will command at least a double team. Some said Fluker has heavy feet, not quick and couldn't move well enough.
