City will need to pay $750 million but would own the stadium

Interesting requirement of minimum $750 million but you get something for it (something that will cost to keep maintained - not sure who would pay for that part)

That's chump change compared to what some of those casinos cost!

I'm hoping this happens. Would be just another excuse to go to Vegas if the Hawks are playing a game there. 8)

I could easily rope a few non local buddies into a vegas trip if the hawks were playing there. It'd be awesome.

Again, while the amount of public money that goes into a stadium is appalling, I still rather like the idea of the Las Vegas Raiders. Plus, let's be honest. The Raider are genuinely in need of a new stadium. The O.co Coliseum is a literal shithole, and I MEAN literal.

I don't think the citizens of Las Vegas agree with you :)

Public pressure mounted, too.

Union members wearing Raiders gear held tailgate parties outside the committee's meetings, and cheerleaders in silver and black flanked the entrances to the meeting on Thursday. Electronic billboards along the interstate urged people to "hold politicians accountable'' on the stadium deal and recommended the hashtag "Don't Screw This Up NV.''

Hey, I'm not against the move, and Mark Davis is probably the only owner in the league that genuinely couldn't pay for a stadium with his pocket change.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought "we the tourists" that choose to frequent Vegas would foot the bill thru hotel/rental car taxes???, and very little if any would come out of the local taxpayers pockets??

I thought that's what I heard on the radio.

Vegas is probably the one city that could generate the revenue to pay off a new football stadium (via the tourist dime) fairly quickly in relation to other cities.

Yeah - this is primarily through hotel taxes and the deal is structured so that the city doesn't go in the red even if there is a massive dip on tourism (supposedly). I can see why the locals would want it and they should have a good crop of candidates for their cheerleading squad :)

That haircut.

Damn.

Third time is a charm...

There is eccentric...and then there is poor taste. He also wears a fanny pack and drives a hooptie minivan. Ignorance is bliss even to billionaires I guess.

Shy

The guy isn't ignorant, that's for sure. I read an article on him, he's eccentric and notoriously cheap, it's why he drives an old hooptie. He also supposedly drives an hour to pay someone $300 for that haircut because he's comfortable with the guy. I don't judge

Wait a second here. I thought that if a team moved, they had to leave the NAME and go with a different NAME so that if a team came back to the original location, they could keep the name previously. Hence the Colts, Houston Oilers, you get my drift. Baltimore Colts became the new expanded team Baltimore Ravens. That was my understanding of it....

p.s. San Diego Chargers to Lousiana...er uh...L.A. Chargers???? Hmmm.

Nope. The team owns the name. The only reason the Browns history remained in Cleveland was as part of a lawsuit settlement. The Baltimore Colts moved to Indianapolis and kept the Colts name and history, as did the Cardinals when they moved from Chicago to St. Louis to Arizona , and the Rams name stuck from Cleveland to Los Angeles to St. Louis and back to LA. The Raiders moved from Oakland to LA then back to Oakland as the Raiders. The Oilers moved to Tennessee as the Oilers with their history in tow before they dumped the name for the Titans when they moved into their new stadium.

And the 49ers kept the 49ers even though they moved to Santa Clara. :)
