How about we try to keep this thread about the new hire, please.Fair enough but most people admit he probably should have been gone since 2017 or so. I figure if Paul hadn't died and Covid wasn't a thing it would happened around then for sure.
Agreed. How about we try to keep this thread about the new hire, please.
He applied when Pete was hired but you are spot on he's top tier and picked us despite 4 other teams offering the same position. I think this proves we did the right thing with hiring Macdonald. What I like about Frazier, has played the game on arguably the best defense in history, has been a head coach, has been a successful DC, has ties across the league. Respected and non-controversial. He could also be a fallback option worst case scenario.
I've looked everywhere and there is no mention of Frazier being the DC. The only reference to his position within the org is assistant head coach.I really wonder if Leslie Frazier isn’t truly the DC along with being an Assistant HC?
To me this is a great add as Coach Frazier is a very solid coach, and brings a wealth of wisdom and experience to a new staff.
I am very curious about the OC still as yet not chosen, the two candidates being discussed are both very interesting.
Between the two of them, mentor and grooming a young upcoming defensive minded guru.I've looked everywhere and there is no mention of Frazier being the DC. The only reference to his position within the org is assistant head coach.
Most teams don't have an assistant head coach. The last time we had one was when Tom Cable was on our staff, but he was also our offensive line coach. It seems like it's just a title with no real job description, something to stroke an ego or justify a bigger paycheck.
Being that Macdonald's roots are in the defense and that he's hired one of the more respected defensive minds that was available, not to mention he's one of Mac's mentors, it makes the hiring of a bonafide defensive coordinator a moot point. Mac has said that he's going to be the one calling the defensive plays, so with Frazier in the house, what role will/would a defensive coordinator have?
Yep. Find a young position coach and give him the job. It would be a heck of an opportunity.Between the two of them, mentor and grooming a young upcoming defensive minded guru.
Excellent hire. I was hoping the Seahawks would have hired him over Hurtt in 2023. I had to wait a bit longer for my wish. Excited to see what is in store for the Seahawk D.Leslie had his choice of places to go and left a very successful stint with the Bills voluntarily. This is an excellent, excellent hire. Macdonald is obviously respected.
Leslie was a potential head coach for us if we hadn't gotten Carroll in 2010. He's the steady hand Macdonald will need as he transitions into his first head coaching role.
This is very similar to the model the Rams did with McVay. He was surrounded with coaches, like Wade Phillips, who had tons of NFL experience which led to McVay's early success as HC.Hiring Frazier should help Macdonald put his staff together. Mac hasn't been around the league for that long and hasn't developed the contacts necessary to throw a wide net in identifying coaching candidates and convincing them to come to work for him. I'm sure that JS has a few contacts, but he's not as in touch with the occupation anywhere close to the same degree that Leslie Frazier is.
Frazier has been coaching in the NFL for 25 years and has obviously developed a lot of contacts that can be made to great use. The other thing is that at 64, he's two generations and 28 years older than Mac, which should help mitigate the perception that the coaching staff is a collection of a bunch of snot nosed kids. It gives the staff some gravitas, says that there's an adult in the house.
I was, and still am, a big Pete fan, but the team did the right thing and it was time.Maybe, worked out in the end though, I can't recall who was available then, but I doubt they'd be as appealing as Macdonald, at least in my eyes, it really worked out for the best.
I just don't like people slamming Pete, it's one thing to think he stayed too long, it's another to imply he's a bad coach and was carried or something.
Belicheck was utter trash until Tom rolled through, yet I don't see the same fervor from anyone calling him garbage or overrated etc
Pete's responsible for one of the best moments in seattle history, I just don't get the hate
One might argue that had Carroll hired Leslie, Carroll might still be coaching? What I like about Frazier, has played the game on arguably the best defense in history, has been a head coach, has been a successful DC, has ties across the league. Respected and non-controversial. He could also be a fallback option worst case scenario.
They fired him. We were talking about burning his house down too.I'm not a hater but Pete had to go and I'm shocked that people are still supporting him.
I'm supporting Pete in his current position and defending him against a lot of very insensitive personal attacks, like calling him Jody's pool boy, taking the keys away from grandpa, et al.I'm not a hater but Pete had to go and I'm shocked that people are still supporting him.
