Well deserved. Think Pete needs the Bears or Bolts to struggle the next couple weeks or it goes to Nagy (higher profile market) or Lynn (bigger market AND the need to make LA football relevant).

Why do you need market size conspiracies to explain it?

Nagy took his team from 5-11 and last in their division to 9-4 so far and first in their division.

The Chargers and Seahawks we're both 9-7 last year and this year the Chargers are 11-3, tied for 1st in their division and tied for the second best record in the NFL, whereas the Hawks are 8-5 and gonna make the playoffs but can't win their division.

I think this is a very impressive coaching year for PC no doubt, and he slots in third no doubt, but so far Nagy is gonna win because Nagy deserves to win, not because Chicago is a big city.

There is ALWAYS an east coast bias in football. Anything west of Chicago might as well not exist. Having lived on the east coast, I believe 100% that market size and location plays into some of these decisions as they are VOTED on by people without an objective selection process. Everyone brings their conscious and subconscious biases to the voting. EVERYONE expected these Seahawks to tank. PC and JS proved them wrong again. GET SOME!

So having eliminated all of the probable causes of the defensive success in Seattle, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth, and that one constant that remains is Pete Carroll.

It's elementary!

I dont think Pete will win it because they like to give these awards to newer coaches who improved their teams record substantially. Pete is at a disadvantage because he is a well established coach with a long history of success. Nagy and Lynn are rookie and 2nd year coaches who have turned their teams around. That is where any bias in voting will come in.

As far as the record improvement goes, thats not what you have to look at with Pete. Sure they were 9-7 last year while the Bears were 5-11, but the expectations this year were not good after the team was blown up. There were people predicting 1st pick in the draft, 4-12, etc. Pete has this team surpassing expectations by a very wide margin.

If we go 11-5 and Chicago goes 10-6, it would be ridiculous to even consider Nagy for the award. Dude was gifted Khalil Mack to an already stout defense and merely made the offense competent.

Seahawks were gutted of talent and coaches. New hires, new faces, no high draft picks. And a top 5 team in the conference.

Of course we have 3 more weeks for things to change. If Dallas wins out, Garrett might bag his second award. Chew on that for a while.

Chicago went from last to first.

The Seahawks went from second to second.

Given the turnover it's impressive the Seahawks stayed in the same slot and nobody should dispute that, but c'mon.

Homer's wont agree but THIS.

That win over the Rams might be the most impressive in the conference.

Pete should have got it in 2012 when we went from 7 wins to 11. They gave it to Ron

Can't win coach of the year if you can't beat the 49ers. This week's game did not help his chances.
