If the only offers we are getting is anything less than a 2nd rounder, screw that keep him and let him play out his contract. We would nab a 3rd round comp pick if/when he walks, so there is no point in trading him for anything less.

His off-the-field statements have nothing to do with his on-the-field value. I'd still take a 30-year old Earl over half the free safeties in the league.

I know right? Look at how the defense collapsed 2016 when Earl was out vs how the defense held its own in 2017 with Kam, Sherm, and Cliff out. Earl is a must keep the whole defense is based on his unique abilities.

Wilson, Doug, Wagner, and ET are untouchables as far as I’m concerned.

Indeed. That is the core of the team.

Provided they want to stay, I'm guessing ET is done here.

Traded for a 2nd and 3rd. Gut it. Wilson is the franchise at this point. We need to draft really well this year.

It did raise my eyebrow when Bradley McDougald was resigned.

If I had to guess, I say they are struggling to agree on the guarantees of his contract. Earl will want strong guaranteed money and the team will want to protect themselves from Kam part two. I don't think either side will fold.

I also think we will be somewhat disappointed in the value we get for him. My best guess is a second and either a 4th or more likely, a 5th/6th.

I honestly believe McDougald can man the free safety spot at a well above average level.

My wild guess is that he will be packaged with a pick or picks on draft day to go get someone Pete and John want bad. I'll be surprised if this doesn't include Shaqeem Griffen (sp). I'd take a flyer on those two brothers being the face of the next secondary.

Unless some team makes an offer we can’t refuse (they won’t) just franchise him in 2019 and 2020 and let him walk in 2021.

Out of interest, would anyone jump on the following?

#18 + Earl to Browns for #4?

I'd personally jump all over it, then trade back aggressively.

I like Earl, but wouldn't even hesitate. That trade would garner multiple high end selections this year and next. Possibly even another first rounder two drafts from now.

That is the kind of trade that can set a team up for a decade. That kind of trade made the Rams defensive line and is likely why it would never happen. The Browns would be getting fleeced.

Agreed.

Incredibly unlikely, though. Doesn't seem like a fair trade at all for the Browns.

I'd even give a 4th and 5th

To CLE:
ET
#18
4th
5th

To SEA:
#4

If Cleveland went for that I would do it as well. Any team in the 20+ range we have a chance to meet in the playoffs. We will likely play Cleveland once before Earl retires and that is only because each NFC team plays a different division in the AFC every year.

If I was the GM Earl would need to convince me that he truly wants to be here before I’d invest any further.

If that were to happen then trade the 4th to the Bills for the 12th pick and their 3rd this year plus their #1 next year.

So essentially we’d be trading:

Give

Earl
#18th Overall

Get

#12th Overall
2018 Bills 3rd Round
2019 Bills 1st Round (which could easily be a Top 10 pick)

Why would Cleveland do that for a one year rental?

Seahawks are due to play Cleveland next year as it happens.
