0-4 in Preseason

Looked over some numbers for how teams that have gone 0-4 in the preseason and how that translates to regular season success and for the most part, it was not pretty. I know people say the preseason means nothing, but it does seem to mean something about regular season success.

For instance, over the last 50 years, only one Super Bowl winner has gone 0-4 in the preseason and not surprisingly that aberration came in the strike-shortened season of 1982-1983 when the Redskins bucked the trend. Only the 1990 Buffalo Bills and the 2000 New York Giants went winless in the preseason and made it all the way to the Super Bowl before falling in the big game.

Posted my pre season thread seconds after yours and didn’t see it Blitzer. Sorry!

After reading your post, maybe it matters more than I thought.

I don't think anyone is thinking we are pushing for a Super Bowl this year, sure its the ultimate goal but this is a reset, first goal win division and or make the Wild Card.

It is a statement of team depth. The defense is very thin. Also, the Seahawks had NFL starting QB in Tavaris Jackson as the backup and that would get them a lot of wins.

Pete cares about the pre-season his always compete mantra would mean the Hawks would beat teams up even in the preseason because the second and third line guys would fly around making plays.

The Rams were one point away from going 0-4 as well.

Of course, I don’t think they ever played their starters.

A lot of teams have gone 4-0 in the pre season and went on to have terrible reg seasons.

Detroit or maybe it was the Browns were 4-0 in the preseason and 0-16 in the regular season . Preseason record means nothing.

A lot of the blame for the 0 and 4 record is how awful the back up QB play has been.
The secondary is also a very big concern as well.

We have a very porous secondary......I'm also concerned.

First time in franchise history. It doesn’t feel good.

Depth in secondary is scary thin. No turnovers, penalties still a problem.

No turnovers in 4 preseason games that's not good .

Technically we recovered the third fumbled snap in a row from Glowinksi in the first game... certainly didn't create any turnovers of our own.

--Ken Norton is going to be a problem i fear. Where are the takeaways? I just want 1, just 1, I am not looking to lead the league. I just want 1 takeaway. 4 games 0 Takeaways. I will reset the counter for the Regular Season, and let us hope this is just a pre-season thing.

--The defense has a lot of young talent in the front 7. It also has young talent in the Secondary, but they are starting so they didn't play tonight. (Quill, Flowers, Thompson.) The secondary doesn't have depth overall though. It will be a crime if they keep 10 DBs. 9 is the most they should keep. Freeing up a roster spot for a more deserving D-Lineman.

--They need an edge rusher in the mold of an Avril bad.

--Offensively they don't have depth outside of WR. RB is so so.

--Should've kept the young kicker, who never missed a kick. That very well could come back to haunt them.

--3rd & Short Offense needs more RPOs, or they are going to struggle to convert all season if they don't.

--Russell Wilson. Him not playing makes them a boring team. I am glad they didn't play him for obvious reasons. Just pointing out they are boring when he isn't on the field.

--Austin Davis & Alex McGough might be the worst pair of backups in the league. It's why they sit at 0-4 in the pre-season. Which isn't a big deal to me. It just highlights why they had to trade for an actual backup, because the team didn't have one.

--Alex McGough I still like, but he needs a year on the practice squad. I am fairly confident he clears waivers. If he doesn't no big deal, it's not like he will most likely pan out anyway.

--You could sell me right now that they go 10-6 or 6-10 and either way I would believe you. The Russell Wilson factor is what is propping things up. So it's hard to lose a lot of games with him at QB.

--The schedule actually swings huge in Seattle's favor if they can win the first 2. They don't leave the Pacific Time Zone but 1 time post last October. That is amazing and probably a franchise first.

I am concerned to an extent but what is mainly obvious is our lack of depth. Most of our players are young on defense, so there's that. There's a huge difference when you have Wagner and Wright out there. And having a healthy Dion Jordan will really help. Ditto if Earl Thomas comes back, but that's obviously a toss up.

Either way, I see us having a functional offense. Russell is Russell, we'll have Baldwin, Lockett, and new weapons at receiver. Hopefully Penny pans out. If so, there isn't a game I don't think we can win. But yes, our depth is concerning. Maybe it's Norton, or maybe it's youth. Who knows. But the main issue as far as I can see it is our backup Qbs are terrible. It's why we got Hundley. With Hundley we probably win against the Vikings and Colts, for what that's worth

So yah, all this highlights is how much of a steep drop-off we have from our starters. Btw I'm not sold on Mike Davis. To me he looks flashy as a runner but he never offers much. I feel the same way about McKissic. The only running backs we have that have EVER shown true talent are Carson, Prosise, and Penny if you consider his college career

If we had better backup QB play then we could easily be 3-1 or 4-0 and people would be talking up our depth. I actually think our depth at most places looks fine. If we can generate some pass rush (huge question mark for me) then the defense is going to be alright.

A lot of good stuff in here.

Mike Davis is an insurance policy RB. If one of you're top 2 get hurt (Carson, Penny) in that role I think he is fine. He doesn't have major potential, but he does his job, and because of that he will make the team.

Personally I love McKissic as a 3rd down specialist. He creates mismatches on Linebackers in the passing game. He flashed despite limited opportunities in his first year doing it last year. (Converted WR). Too early to pull the plug on him imo. Though he might be waived injured to start out the year. A shame he got hurt.
