Soulfish,
No sarcasm here when I say a lot of us appreciate your optimism.
But....
When something is historically bad? Does it make sense to continue to scrutinize?
Maybe.
I think the bigger value of the video is that he makes the case that the pass rush is not the issue.
Then he lays out where the problems are occurring, what is fixable, and what is not.
While I don't expect it to change, we are seeing a lot of 'the defense did its job, this is on Russ' type of posts.
It seems relevant to point out this is not a problem that went away or we addressed in the last game.
Our defense did the same things that other teams took advantage of, the Rams just didn't take as much advantage of it as others did.
Bolding this part because I think McVay chose to not let Goff lose the game if their defense kept playing well. I've watched a few of their games this year and it's clear McVay is fed up with Goff and his TO's. They moved the ball with ease first 3 drives for 250 yards and 17 points. Then Adams got a strip-sack and McVay really took his foot off the gas, probably because he assumed Goff would force more TO's. If the offense actually showed up, the Rams could have easily matched the season averages of ~500 yards and 30+ points given up, they just didn't have to because Russ had the worst game of his career.
The defense still looked broken, the Rams just went conservative and played ball control. The video does a great job highlighting the horrendous job the coaching staff has done this year. Players certainly deserve blame for lack of execution in some cases but they aren't being put into a place to succeed. Playcalling is terrible, zero adjustments (which we all assumed), communication non-existent, zero situational awareness, obvious coverages where NFL QB's can easily know where to go with the ball, and repeatedly sticking with things that aren't working. The only time they get a stop is if Jamal makes a great play or the QB makes a mistake.
Pete needs to burn down the defensive coaching staff and bring in a young DC from college who can take the whole thing over. Offenses have evolved, taking schemes and play design from college, and Pete's D need a re-work.
