If you don’t like Geno Maelmstrom and KEasly will go after you then “oh but I don’t think he’s good either” so when he sucks they can act like they knew it all along. It’s just a littke whiny B move. They will pivot in a few weeks. So really. Just disingenuous and taking both sides of an issue after repeatedly mobbing people who disagree. It‘ll be interesting to see.
You continue to prove that you're not actually reading what's being said - or at least that you're misunderstanding it. Saying "this sample of play is pretty good" is not the same as saying "this player is a good candidate to be a long-term starter."

That's not playing both sides, it's being a rational person. You don't have to have an extremist viewpoint for the viewpoint to be accurate - in fact, if you DO have a viewpoint that is to the extreme side of the spectrum of opinions on the issue, you're probably being a little ridiculous. The real world is nuanced, and the truth generally lies somewhere in the middle.

You're determined to be angry, and that's fine. Just know that everyone can see through that, as pretty conclusively proven by the past page of replies.

RW is now 33 and has lost a step. Nobody disputes that. PC is now older and no one wants to admit he has also lost a step.

ummm Geno is making $3.5 m and up to $7 m with incentives

and they were FAs so no picks lol
Your disdain for Pete is clouding your credibility, you're using a Parroted Opinion about him having "Lost a Step" doesn't mean that you and several others here on .NET are truthin'.

I'll be as nice as I possibly can here, and simply direct you to slowly and carefully read who I was actually calling obtuse.

Read it again, and reconsider your reply.
I've reread your post and stand corrected, sorry for the crossed wires.

A potential problem with Geno as starter: for the last 6.5 games, either he played it very safe or the coaches limited his plays. With that safe approach, games will likely to enter 4th quarter with tight scores. Geno hasn't displayed ability to play efficiently under pressure, in fact the major difference between Geno and Russ in 2021 was under pressure (see below), if we couldn't score enough in first 3 quarters, Geno will be stressed, and we shall see.

Plus, they are basing it on partial preseason games where 1s played against 2s and some stars sat out on defense.
MANY of the "STARS" ( "1s") as you call them, 95% of the time, were ACTUALLY sitting on the benches ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL...It wasn't Lockett or Metcalf DROPPING those Very Catchable Balls that Geno was throwing, thus his Ball Placement grading as high as it was.
The Preseason games were played and were MEANT for player evaluations, of who makes the 53-man roster, & who gets sent packing.
Some of y'all need to dial back on your animosities'.
Ever hear of "Wait and See"???

The problem isn't Cross or Lucas. The problem is the 3 OL between them. Blythe doesn't hold up 1-on-1. Opponents will play to get the Seahawks into 2nd or 3rd & long then utilise 3 DL against the G-C-G positions. Smith will face quick pressure up the middle. Smith isn't a quick decision maker and he isn't a great scrambler.
That’s all true. I wasn’t thinking about running the ball up the middle. But I do like Cross and Lucas protecting Geno from edge rushers, and I’m really excited about Walker III. He’s going to be special.

That sure would be a convenient summary for you, but again, that's not what was said in this thread. Not even close. You're inaccurately reducing what was said to make it easier to disprove in the future.

You are lying, and there's no other way to put it.

Maybe we can all agree that we don’t have a QB that’s going to produce a playoff run?

There’s a yes and no in here somewhere. Personally, I don’t enjoy reading those comments that don’t commit to their beliefs for fear of being wrong once the non-subjective results are in.

There’s more substance in a comment such as “LJ Collier? What a reach!!” than one that’s well written, backed with stats, has a comment or two such as “So you think you know more than Pete?”, and speaks of upside.

It’s a fan forum so…that’s the way it goes.

I don’t care what the experts said. I’ve seen enough of both Geno and Lock to tell me this team’s not going to win 9 games…let alone go to the playoffs. Just my opinion.

That doesn’t mean it’s going to suck. We tore this draft up and I’m looking forward to seeing what these youngsters will do. I’m anxiously awaiting next years draft and the wholesome crop of QBs that come with it. Lastly, it’s one more year that gets scratched off Pete’s tenure.

Better Days Ahead!

We all do agree that a playoff run is pretty darn unlikely with the current quarterbacks.

There are more people complaining about delusional Geno fans than there actually are delusional Geno fans.

It wasn't about running the ball up the middle. It's about opponents isolating the weakest blocker to blow up plays. In 2019 the Rams were comparatively weak at G-C-G. Teams deployed 3 DL against the interior OL in long yardage situations to get favourable 1-on-1 match-ups. That helped them get quick inside pressure. Goff was better in the pocket and the Rams were better with long-developing pass plays. It was tactically sound against the 2019 Rams. Smith is more comfortable in the pocket and the Seahawks OL may be weaker on the interior, (with Blythe at C), than it is outside.

Long-term Cross and Lucas could be really good against edge-rushers. In the shorter term it may not matter so much because opponents may come up the middle instead.

I agree that will be a problem this season. Geno will have to roll out and throw on the run. The other option is to keep a blocker in the backfield to help with the rush. Might also even run on 3rd and long with traps/draws to catch them by surprise. I know that’s conservative, but I think it will take some creative play-calling and scheming to deal with the problem you raise. Of course, the ultimate solution is to add a couple more guys like Cross and Lucas to the offensive line in 2023. That will happen.

Commit to what??? Saying CONCLUSIVELY that they DO or DO NOT BELIEVE Geno Smith is an absolute bust???
A bunch of us have just taken the "Wait & See" approach WITHOUT casting disparaging remarks towards Geno, just because he ain't Russ.
No One absolutely KNOWS FOR A FACT, whether he will or will not SUCCEED or if he will FAIL, and that is all that MOST of us have committed our beliefs to.
He is being measured by What Would Russell Wilson do or being graded out for his play in an entirely DIFFERENT SYSTEM that he played in Several Years Ago, and/or BOTH
I WILL say, that I don't hold onto the dislike or downright hatred for Pete, Geno or anyone else, simply because of Russell Wilson's desire to QUIT the Seahawks.
Things were going the way he wanted in Seattle & NO ONE was going to turn over the keys to the Seahawks Franchise to the guy, so he decided that if he couldn't have a lot more say-so that he wanted OUT.

Too much emphasis on the QB position. Not all teams in the NFL are built around the QB as the salary cap is not keeping up with the pay increases that top tier QBs demand. So teams are going back to square one which is a diverse running attack backed by a defense. Granted that may yield middling .500 ball but with the new playoff format of the extra playoff seed it makes sense.

Once you are in the dance anything can happen. Titans are a good example of this.

I am a new member. I chose Bear-Hawk as my username, because I have been a fan of both the Bears and the Seahawks for many years, having moved from Illinois in 1980.

I see both teams on a very good path to rebuilding into a contender by 2024.

1. Both teams had very solid draft in 2022, getting three starter-quality players. Can’t ask for much more than that.

2. Bears got franchise QB in Fields. Seahawks will get one in 2023 draft. It will a strong QB draft class with four in the first round. 2022 was a weak year, and Seahawks made the right move taking Cross instead of reaching for a QB. Seahawks could win 7-8 games this season and still have plenty enough draft capital in 2023 to trade up in first round (like Bears did) to land a franchise QB.

3. Bears will finally have a first round draft (after trading away Mack) to get a top-tier WR. Bears fans complain that it didn’t happen this year, but Gordon and Brisker were great picks to fix Bears HORRIBLE secondary.

4. Bears and Seahawks have a ton of cap space in 2023. Bears have over $100 million (insane number!) and Seahawks are 4th highest in NFL with over $50 million. So both teams are in good position to make noise in the free agency market. Seahawks can use that plus the extra draft picks from the Wilson trade to upgrade the offensive line.

Can't help it if you have an issue distinguishing between defending current trends and performance and pushing back on the tired 'Geno sucks' narrative, and proclaiming a player our savior.

I'm beginning to understand why there's so much bickering in this forum around Geno and Russ/ Lock. In every case, the issue revolves around someone not being able to hold to truths at once. Whether Geno maybe not sucking but also not being our franchise guy.

Or that Locks future not yet be written, AND that his ceiling also might not be as high as we need it to be.

Or Russ being great, and still being part of the reason we struggled.

Read that again. There's no switcho, chango happening. It's just the inability or unwillingness of some to be able to comprehend two truths (not opposite, btw, so no lines need to be drawn) about a player.

But call it what you want.

I think it actually works the other way around. The NFL rookie wage structure goes up $45K per year, (which will average at around 6%). Rookie salaries dictate what happens to NFL bottom tier veteran salaries. If the salary cap goes up by more than that the extra money will naturally flow to the top tier players who are hardest to replace. If the salary cap increased by less than the average increase rate given to rookies the salaries for superstars would slow, stagnate, or drop.

The current paradigm is to hit gold by drafting a franchise QB and win the Super Bowl before he can go free agent and break the bank with his second contract that sucks up so much cap space that you can’t afford a Super Bowl caliber roster around him. I’m hoping the Seahawks can go that route.
