RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett and left tackle Bradley Sowell got into a heated dust-up Sunday that resulted in both players getting pulled from practice.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the fight was the result of Sowell shoving defensive end Josh Shirley to the ground earlier in a one-on-one drill. When Bennett got a turn to face Sowell, the two players mixed it up and ended up on the ground before they were separated.

As long as they can talk about it later and learn from it, it's a non issue imo.

Bennett has found the most clever way of getting out of practice early: start a fight. Good thinking!

How is a fight newsworthy if it is resolved so quickly? They're really grasping at straws here...

I'm wondering if Bennett does this stuff just to test the youngin's? If you're ready to duke it out with one of the best D lineman in the league, your stock probably goes up.

Just saying.

Somehow, and I don't know exactly how, I think his salty attitude in camp
has to do with his unhappy contract situation.

I mean, he has no reputation as a practice brawler, as far as I know. He's said
he won't hold out so maybe this is his signal that things are definitely not o.k.
with him.

Or maybe he was just p.o.'d that Sowell was a little hard on Josh Shirley.
With mike you're never sure.

Seems to me that Sowell had been getting the reputation during this TC that he was the "man to deal with".
Mr. Bennett finally had enough and wasn't taking any sh*t!!

I give Michael Bennett the benefit of the doubt in every situation.

He is not only a great player but the most entertaining interview on the team.
Mike has locker room cred that Bradley Sowell is miles from reaching.

I'm guessing the sideline negotiations were mostly an apology by Sowell.
The o-line, however, could use some of the attitude that Ifedi and now
Sowell are bringing, or as least trying to bring.

Doug Baldwin, bless his heart, is trying to transition from bad boy to team
leader. Mike could have gone after a less convenient target than Doug.
Or at least someone within a hundred pounds of himself.

Or maybe Doug should choose his interventions a little more carefully.

Brock noted in the show (paraphrase) that this was Bennett pressing the OL to get them ready, mentally and physically. That Bennett didn't want potential weaknesses exposed that hurt the whole team.

He likely would use any available motivation (contract, on field slight, hate for offense in general, etc) on his part to up his intensity.

Brock must have been 'guessing' because MikeB addressed it in his press conference and basically said he went after Sowell because he took a cheap shot at Shirley. He was standing up for his guy and wanted Sowell to know that it was unacceptable and somebody could get hurt. He felt like Sowell crossed a line within the team. He took it personal, as disrespect .

It doesn't sound like it was some 'test' for the Oline.

A difference of opinion concerning player safety. Sounds like it was sorted out.

Bennett talks about his view of the incident in this video link >>> [urltargetblank]http://prod.video.seahawks.clubs.nfl.com//SEA/videos/dct/video_audio/2016/08-August/160822bennett-presser-3200k.mp4[/urltargetblank]

On 710 today, they said Sowell picked up Bennett like a WWE move.

There may be something to that, actually. I was thinking more along the lines of getting the rooks more reps, and not getting out of practice.

Yes, this also. Do that to opponents; not to teammates. I think I'm gonna have some serious bro love for this OL. I miss those days.

Anyone who ever played football beyond youth football has seen, and probably been in, a fight during practice. It means nothing. It's just a natural reaction to something that happens.

I think it's easy to speculate that this has something to do with Mike's contract but in actuality it moser than likely doesn't!!! This offensive line is much improved and the team has finally brought in some linemen with a chip on their shoulder, just like the rest of this team, Pete and John have always drafted players with something to prove, now it appears the O-line is feeling the same way! Bennett isn't schooling them as easily as years past and the linemen aren't backing down from the cagey vet. Tempers flare and alpha males try to prove themselves! This, IMO, is a good thing!
