Seems like Wembley would be a no brainer as a back up, unless there is already an event that day.
On another note, can you suggest a decent area to stay in London that isn't super expensive. We plan on staying the first couple nights in London, then stay with our friend Deano fri/sat/sun, then pop down to Paris for a couple nights (mon/tue after the game). Near "downtown" London rooms were like 3 bills. Not looking to do that, though we will be splitting the room in London w/friends so we don't need a dump
Much appreciated. I did a bunch of expedia searches, just don't know the area, what would be a good area of London to stay and have good access to some sightseeing w/a quick cab/train or bus ride.
Here’s some helpful advice that I wrote for another poster
The great thing about London is how accessible just about everywhere is, the underground (underground trains) is probably the best system in the world, it’s efficient, quick and can get you just about anywhere in London quickly.
It’s fairly straight forward to use as well, within 2 days you should be used to how it works and how to get about efficiently. It’s pretty cost effective as well.
I’d avoid taxis as car traffic is London is hideous, not quite LA bad but it’s awful.
Hotels are also in abundance in London, they have everything for every budget. Expect £100 a night for something average but acceptable. Air BnB and serviced apartments are also an option, for me personally, I tend to go with serviced apartments as I like the space and not being cooped up in one room for a long amount of time. There’s plenty in Canary Wharf (the business district) and also plenty of travel links in and out, it’s not the most central location but I really like the area as a base and you’ll be in central London very quickly! Just an idea.
In terms of what to do, you’re pretty spoilt for choice in London as there’s so much to do. My recommendations would be -
Go on the London Eye, you get pretty good views and it’s always fun.
Visit London Dungeons (about 1 minute away from the eye!), it’s really, really good. Me and my wife still laugh about when we went a couple of years ago, it’s really, really well done!
If drinking is your thing bars are great in London. There’s a casino in Leicester Square (you can’t miss it!) that has a very large sports bar but more importantly a pretty well hidden bar that has a large balcony that overlooks Leicester Square and is great for people watching. We can spend hours up there!
I’d also highly recommend china town for everything from food, to drinking, to people watching or to just have a walk around. It is ‘slightly’ seedy in parts of China town, a few sex shops and brothels but the area is totally safe. I’d have zero problem with my wife walking around there on her own at midnight.
London zoo is worth a visit as well if that’s your thing. I don’t agree with zoos in general but it’s meant to be very good
