Think you're reading way too much into this. Three years is a long ways away, and I doubt either of them know for sure what the next 3 years will bring. Carroll may or may not still want to coach in 3 years. They will probably re-approach their contracts in a couple of years.

Just because he signed on for 3 more years doesn't mean he won't be here for 3 more after that. It just means he's being smart and taking advantage of his value now which will probably increase after 2016.
