Contemplate that for a second. RT @JimmyTraina: Ray Rice is unemployed because of TMZ, not the NFL.

What a world.

Yep. Fired.
In lite of the video being seen by all.
That's what had to be done.
IMHO any way.
PR NIGHTMARE.
if it can be proved that the NFL saw it prior to the 2game thing, comish should be next.

I applaud the Ravens for making the stand. I hope all other pro teams follow the lead. These players SHOULD be held to a higher standard.
Flame me if you wish, I'll stand by my statement.

It won't flame you for the overall sentiment of your post, but I don't think the Ravens should be applauded in any way, shape, or form for their handling of this ordeal. To release him now is a pure-PR move and nothing more.

Ravens get no praise from me for taking action after their hand has been forced. I don't believe for a second that they didn't see or know what was on that video.

I thought the Ravens tweeted a live thing with the woman. (?) Which proves a few things. She got the shit knocked out of her and ended up marrying the guy, and the Ravens were trying to cover all of this up.

Kudos on this to TMZ for making it public when the law couldn't.

Ravens PR probably has some folks that will be joining Ray Rice. I didn't realize they wrote this following piece, along with the whole PR nightmare that was the Ray and Janay press conference and her apology:

http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news...Ray-Rice/f618f957-e03f-4fc6-919e-638552b14c2b

"That's your call," Bisciotti told me. "I don't think Ray needs it, and I don't think you'll change the minds of those who don't want to have anything to do with Ray. ... How sad we all are that he tarnished his image. No one outside, I've learned, can understand how we look at these guys as our sons and close friends as opposed to just employees.

Finally the Ravens do the right thing because the NFL didn't.

The Ravens publicly backed Rice for months after the incident, welcomed him back to the team for camp and preseason games, and published a statement from his fiancee apologizing for her involvement in the incident. The Ravens handled this entire thing the wrong way until an hour ago. They DID NOT cut Ray Rice because it was the right thing to do. They DID cut Ray Rice because they had no choice and would have been crucified publicly in both the local and national media and fan bases if they did not. They are trying to save face way way way too late on this deal.

Actually, casinos have little problem covering stuff up for good/rich clients. It's very possible that they may have "accidentally" suppressed that video for a while. I'm not sure if they did or not, but you'd have to be very naive to think it's not a possibility. :)

Exactly right. I dont believe for a second Ravens hadnt seen the video. This is purely damage control. They tried to get around it (with a tribute to Ray Rice during a preseason game, and everything). Then the video comes out and they have no choice.

Ravens get no credit for doing the right thing at the wrong time for the wrong reasons.

NFL just announced indefinite suspension as well, "In light of new video evidence". Ha, what a load of crock.

Per NFL.com he has been indefinitely suspended by the NFL. Good.

I wonder how long until his wife leaves him now that he won't be making anymore $$$

NFL just jumped into the CYA fray and have suspended Rice indefinitely. He will have to apply for re-admission if he is picked up by another team, which is unlikely for the time being.

Wow.

Is it just me....or does it appear he actually hits her twice in the vid? The camera is skipping frames, but it looks like she comes toward him after he hits her once, and then he knocks her the hell out on the second punch.

No way they could have suppressed it from the DA.

Here's what I think happened, and maybe I am being too charitable: the raw video from the elevator is extremely choppy, you can hardly detect the punches by Rice in it, and the fiancee looks more menacing coming forward toward him in slow, choppy motion. After TMZ cleaned it up and put it in real time, you can now clearly see who the instigator was as well as the velocity of those punches. Knowing how technologically unadvanced many DA offices are, it's unlikely they ever corrected the choppiness of the raw video for themselves.
