Since you asked though, to me his podcast doesn’t look simple, if it was simple every starting QB would have a podcast. This year was a particularly difficult year for defenses due to covid with no offseason. So it took a while to catch up to offenses, plus we really didn’t play that many good teams early on in the year when Russ was killing it. Once we played good teams like the Cardinals, Bills or Rams, teams had game film to figure out Russ and how to attack him then things started to look how they do now. His podcast isn’t helping him solve these current issues.Maelstrom787":2ziqgrap said:PNW":2ziqgrap said:I’m glad this topic was brought up and made in a thread, I do think the podcast is an unneeded distraction and should be dialed back until the season is over. However everyone is welcome to have their own opinions. I don’t know of any other current players with their own podcasts. The only other one is Mark Ingram. Aaron Rodgers being a guest on someone else’s podcast is completely different and is not comparable in my opinion. To me it appears “Separation is in the preparation.” is now something in the past.
A podcast takes a couple of hours of talking, and his media team certainly does the rest. Players go out to eat, they go to clubs, and they socialize. It's part of life, and its good for them.
To insinuate that a simple podcast is honestly derailing his preparation is a huge reach. And, again, I pose the question: the podcast was running when he had his best start of a seasom ever, by FAR. Why wasn't it a problem for y'all then?

Yeah, probably. I mean, he got himself addicted to gambling and switched to baseball at one point. He also starred in a major movie in the middle of his career.
Case rested, I agree

Dont forget golfing during the nba playoffs. He ended up having a bad game on the course and losing money to Ainge. He took it out on Dennis Johnson and the rest of the Celtics w his 63pts.

Podcasts aren't another competitive sport and Wilson definitely hasn't had a game equivalent to hanging 63 points on anyone in the last few weeks.
MJ was singular and he used every little slight to fuel his competitive fire, to include losing bets in gambling or the golf course.
Look at the threads on this page, everyone is saying that Wilson seems burnt out, extinguished. There is no competitive fire and the only thing that seems to make him light up are his side hustles.

Assume to be half decent at both you have to now carve another 2-5 hours out of your day. No one is going to fault someone for keeping their priorities straight regarding their family (marriage/ and fatherhood), but something has to give in your day, is it sleep? is it your off field film study? both have the potential to affect your on-field performance.
People who are as successful as RW tend to be creatures of habit that have every half hour of their day accounted for. So yes, you add in two huge things in his equation this year something has to give and I think we're seeing it affect his on-field performance. I mean it literally could be something as simple as sleep is what he's been giving up, how many people here took on a new project/hobby found yourself staying up an extra 1-2 hours a night and it didn't seem to be a big deal until a few months later as you burned out. RW is human...

As someone who does a podcast, I can tell you, you're spot on. I have a team of people producing the podcast and it still takes a m in minimum of 6 hours per podcast for me to do a bit of research, and prep before the taping and then the actual taping and conversations afterwards.
I agree wholeheartedly that Russ is taking on too much in his personal life. I love the guy...probably going to end up being my favorite seahawk of all time if I can ever find a way to let go of Steve largent. I'm not bashing Russ in any way. I simply hope he cuts out some of the personal side stuff and focuses on football.
One thing we have to remember is that Russ is always playing at a disadvantage with his size so absolutely he needs to be more prepared than most QBs if he wants to remain elite.

This makes sense. Time and energy are finite resources. And Russ' lack of energy is showing on the field. This in my view is the bigger reason why he's playing poorly. Not because he's not studying film.
I don't question his preparation. He just looks tired out there. Maybe he's burnt out at this point in the season, trying to balance his family life, football life and his business aspirations. Not enough sleep and recovery time?
In this last game, his mental clock was two seconds too slow. For a QB, football is more mental than it is physical.
Are there articles saying he's putting in less time? Or are you just making assumptions because certain story types have stopped?TwistedHusky":15a1r2pq said:The stories about how much extra time Russ has put in at the VMAC on nights, off-days, and weekends have stopped.
We used to see them all the time during the SB runs.
Do you really believe he is putting in the same amount of time?
Honestly?
Or do you just think he doesn't need to put in that kind of time anymore?
Again, I didn't think it was sustainable anyway - but to argue it is unchanged seems to ignore a lot of information staring you in the face that seems to dispute this.
TwistedHusky":2ptqux8g said:If you want to try to convince yourself that Russ is putting in the same amount of time he did back then?
I won't bother trying to dissuade you.
There is a lot of information that seems to be staring you in the face that you would have to ignore. But unless he was punching a time clock, you could probably convince yourself it hasn't changed.
Again, Russ himself said that separation was in the preparation. But you don't have to believe him if it makes you feel better.
I don’t know why but there seems to be a lot of very angry posters here that believes Wilson does not have any flaws.TwistedHusky":1g86kac3 said:If you want to try to convince yourself that Russ is putting in the same amount of time he did back then?

I don’t understand that.
You don’t need to be upset when someone criticizes Wilson.
Wilson is the franchise QB and when he plays awful, he should be open for criticism just as any other member/player on the team.
But it’s almost like cult-following of Wilson defenders that will come to the aid of Wilson anytime another poster says something about Wilson that they do not like.
Relax. Wilson has flaws.
Posters here get very upset.
