When you use a helmet as a weapon to whack a guy in the head, that goes beyond aggressive play or the rules of the game. That’s assault. He could have dropped the helmet and thrown a punch. He chose to use the helmet.
Ok that’s your opinion and I respect that but I disagree. These men can get killed on every hit. They, themselves are loaded Deadly weapons. Just for arguments sake, do you think Rudolph should get assault charges? By definition he could. He tried to rip Garrets helmet off and in the act could of broke his neck. That act showed intent to cause physical harm and could easily be proven. This issue should stay on the field and handled by the league and stay out of the Courtroom.pmedic920":3e4xnind said:BubbaGump":3e4xnind said:This is a highly aggressive sport. What in your eyes makes it not an assault?
I agree up to the point people start using weapons on the field.
We’ve all seen fights and scuffles on the field, and it’s definitely a bad look.
The sport doesn’t need that but this was a different level.
This was IMHO, absolutely assault with a weapon.
That same action in a dark alley or parking lot would allow the use of deadly force in many states.
Yes it was on a football field not on the streets but the playing field doesn’t lessen the action.
I don’t believe filing charges for something like this would ruin the sport, I think things like this ruin the sport.

Ban him for the next 16 games. You know how much that'll cost him? Looks like somewhere around $5m of regular salary, from a second's worth of Googling.
I was born in 1982, but I've seen plenty of games from the 60s and 70s. A lot of people clearly don't remember the violence in games from that era that happened....every week, lol.
I'm not defending Garrett in any way, but some of the reactions here are ridiculous.

He tried. Yanking someone's head around by the helmet is risking serious neck damage - much worse damage than hitting someone in the head with a helmet.SantaClaraHawk":2jyika6p said:Whatever Rudolph might have tried, he didn't remove Garrett's helmet.
I know for an absolute fact I wouldn't be reacting to that like you are to this. Don't believe me if it makes you feel better.pmedic920":1ui0rkwo said:What would the conversation be if Ndamukong Suh had done this to Russel Wilson?

I guess the victim being an opposing player changes everything?

Add some HGH and steroids into that mix as well.sc85sis":3aaxzdol said:Whatever happened to people just swearing at each other when they’re PO’d? Jeez. Adrenaline and testosterone, I get it, but that was seriously out of line.

Why is Garrett late-hitting a QB with 8 seconds left in the game while up 2 scores and taking him all the way to the ground anyway?
