They targeted the outside mainly because they had a favorable matchup with their WR's. That's one thing Grubb is very good at as a play caller. He attacks weaknesses in the defense. They actually mixed in the TE's quite a bit & ran 12 personnel.
Coolio, thanks for the info!

I can't wait to see Rome in the NFL. He is an absolute MONSTER. Total team guy too. Throw it in his zip code and he'll come down with it.
Agreed. Rome was so dominate as a contested catch guy that it made life so much easier for Penix. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get taken within the first 6 or so picks. That's his floor. He's going to turn heads at the combine for sure.

He also missed zero time from a broken rib/punctured lung

He was also named THE (as in number one at ANY position) football academic all American of the year.

He's intelligent, a stud of a player, a dog that will fight to play, and doesn't get caught up in drama on or off the field. He was also a team captain.

Dude is pretty much the consummate ideal player, I literally can't think of anything negative to say about him. Maybe could get better separation? But his hands are so strong and can fight through contact to where it doesn't particularly matter.

He REALLY reminds me of Larry Fitzgerald, and I don't say that lightly.

As much as I gush over odunze, I actually disagree.

I think he SHOULD go top 6, but I think nabers and Harrison go first and push odunze down.

I think Harrison is pretty much set going 1st at wr, but odunze might be able to pass nabers. It's worth noting that nabers isn't going to work out at the combine and odunze is,and Harrison isn't doing combine OR pro day.

We don't disagree. MHJ will be off the board first. But Rome should go at Picks 5 or 6.

I'll agree and say Rome or nabers will, like I said I would take Rome first (of any of them) but I don't know if GMs feel the same way

It makes sense to trade him, but the issue is...I don't think any team wants to pick him up. They see what he costs, they saw the inefficiency of his career overall, they are aware that his trajectory is what it is. The only way another team picks him up is late season crucial QB injury and they need a veteran QB who can perform as a slightly above average level immediately through the playoffs.

I agree with OP. He is purely a bridge right now. With the O-Line also being a major weakness last year, you don't want your QBOTF standing behind that line trying to develop behind that line as well.

It wouldn't surprise me if all three receivers go in order (4,5,6). There are 7 or 8 blue chip guys at the top in my eyes. All three guys are included.

Don't underestimate the ridiculous tight window throws from Penix in his time at UW. The ridiculous was the norm.

Oh yeah, it's a significantly better (at least at the top) wr class compared to last year for example.

Good argument to be made that the top is better than most years.

That's fine. But don't be surprised if he's still available in the 3rd round. The injuries & inconsistencies on film are a bigger deal than you realize. It's something teams will judge him on.
Inconsistencies? He was possibly the best QB in the country. He won 21 straight games. But hopefully more and more people downplay how good he is.
We can go ahead and agree to disagree. And that's cool.

Yup. The last two drafts in particular weren't great overall. Especially at the top. Whereas this year, it's more top heavy. It's a shame we don't have more draft capital this year.

I know his arm talent. I've watched every game (UW fan). He can make some really high-level throws. No debating that. But the decision making at times was an issue. The ASU game in particular was his worst performance by far. Even the first Oregon game, which I attended, there we're moments in that game when he didn't perform at his best. The video that I posted breaks down his performance in that game.

The biggest red flag for me is his throws & completion percentage when pressured. A lot of that can be attributed to his lack of mobility. Can he operate out of structure on a consistent basis? That's a fair question to ask. Can he thrive behind a line that doesn't give him a clean pocket on every drop back? UW's o-line was so good for the most part. The games in which he did struggle, was when he faced pressure on a consistent basis.

There are ways to add capital.

Tag/trade leonard (if they can free the cap room for that), leverage future draft picks (would make me very nervous, could be higher than expected picks with a new staff), trade lockett/dk for cap relief.

Probably some others, but those off the top of my head, not a huge fan of any tbh though unless we're moving up a few picks to grab someone we REALLY want that slipped a bit.

I'm not opposed to moving dk before his astronomical next contract, but that makes more sense next offseason than this year.

The idea that Geno is as good as peak Russ is wild. Russ was a top 2-3 guy for a couple of years and consistently top 5-7 for an extended period of time. We get it, his exit was legendary for being bad. Doesn’t take away from the fact when he had his head on straight he was special. No need for revisionist history because we hate the guy now.
He was never a top 2-3 guy. His best year may have been a top 5 year, I still think it was not but it's close. Overall, through his best years, he was a lower end of the top 10 QB occasionally coming close to cracking the top 5.

Russ fans put on their rose-colored glasses to paint him as an elite QB. He was not.

Wasn't the asu game practically in a monsoon, or am I thinking of another one?

Pretty sure Polk alone had 4-5 straight up bad drops, like uncontested ones.

I don't think the Arizona schools are good examples, they've always given uw fits.

I disagree on his mobility, he doesn't take off for easy yardage as often as he should, but his pocket movement is fantastic, and heavily contributed to the lack of hits/sacks.

Not trying to say penix's as good as him at this, but nobody called brady mobile, but he could create extra time within the confines of the pocket, and I've seen penix do it repeatedly.

He won all those games. Truly what matters. He finishes unlike any QB in the country.
He did. He also did that behind maybe the best O-line in the country. As well as with the best WR trio in the country. He had a lot of help. Let's not downplay that aspect.

Yeah I just disagree. He was every bit elite and most people around the league agree that he was during his prime. You're entitled to your opinion though.

All of his stats, post season success, game winning drives, 4th quarter play etc all of it points to an elite QB for a long stretch of time. But again you're free to disagree, This is a subjective target and everyone is free to use their own metrics on what constitutes elite.

People still beating this drum that Russ wasn't a great QB. Adorable. And exactly why I stopped talking about this subject 2 years ago.
