When you pay a QB 20 MILLION dollars a year you expect them to come up big when you need them. Wilson missed a lot of easy opportunities today, he cannot keep doing that.
Which ones? Please give a detailed list of the "lot of easy opportunities he missed", seeing as you speak with such conviction. Here, I'll even start for you, deep ball to Lockett. Keep it going Spin.
Deep ball to Lockett, yes that was a missed opportunity. Lockett had a lot of separation, and while it was no gimmie pass, Wilson had the arm strength, and a clean pocket. You need to hit those passes. Another pass to Lockett that he dropped, while that was partially on Lockett, the pass was errant and dreadful. It was high, no pressure in Wilson's face, and Lockett had to fully extend his body, and even then he was only able to get his fingertips on the ball. The deep pass to Kearse in the fourth quarter, Kearse had separation but the ball was placed in an area where the DB had a better chance at the ball than Kearse. There was also another deep ball to Kearse that he overthrew in the first quarter when he had separation. That is what I remember off the top of my head, I'm going to rewatch the game, but these are what I remember off the top of my head.

He's hearing footsteps and bailing out of the pocket earlier than he should but who can blame him? His WRs don't get open and his line hardly blocks. I always thought Wilson was a better leader than player and hoped he'd grow as a QB, but he is regressing due to things out of his control. Also, defenses clearly have figured him out and are taking away what he likes to do.

The rapport that he is slowly building with Graham offers some hope. If we can add a legit #1 WR and block better I expect he'll be back at a Pro Bowl level. If we don't get him some help he will become David Carr.

Fair enough. Lockett ball... gotta catch it. You're a pro. Kearse throws meh, he was thrown off his route both times from what I saw, but it could be a different case upon review.

We're screwed with Wilson's contract if he has to play behind this line so yes.

We were pretty much screwed no matter what we did.

Such is life in the NFL.

Claimed he was the best player in the game, then he should play like the best player in the game! Ya open ya mouth, you should back it up!
When did he ever say that? Now you're just lying silly :D

When said he wanted to be the highest paid in the league, he in essence is claiming he is the best. Simple.

It was good when we had our run. 2013 and up til the last play of last year. We had our chance. We had our fun. It's clearly over. Another team will have their opportunity this year. It will not be us. Sad day.

Are there really no open WR's? I've seen quite a few this year that he has missed, because he either didn't see them or because he is too busy having happy feet. Players such as Manning, Rodgers, etc, throw the ball before their receiver makes the break, and use anticipation and timing to get their WR's open. Wilson does not do this on a consistent basis, he is hesitant to pull the trigger unless his guys have a good cushion. This leads to less turnovers, higher completion percentage however it also leads to stalled drives, three and outs, and a tepid offense. Right now our defense cannot carry us. We need MORE from the offense to win, we're in the bottom third of the league in almost every category at the moment.

Dunno why, but I doubt this portion of the OP.
So it's loyalty oath time? You know things are bad when the allegiance brigade is out.

That line......

Russ did what he could. That o-line on the other hand. I'm all for seeing what Rawls has as full time starter. Lynch looks like he's lost a little on his step. It could be injury, or it be age, but Lynch is not the same.
You cannot blame that loss on the line. Wilson straight up walked himself into a few sacks, pocket presence was absolutely dreadful, you cannot do what Wilson did and expect that he remain clean. This is what I was afraid of when we paid Wilson. I just don't think he's a QB that can carry a team.

Agreed, we should have cut Wilson after the last season. :sarcasm_on:

Just out of curiosity, would you rather have Cam or Russell?
Russell's problem is decision making and taking risks. He is too tentative. he does not trust his receivers. To me, that's as simple as that. Trust. Trust. Trust. Trust.

Our defense now goes into their turtle shell, typical PC bullshit of "keep the lead" instead of extend it and keep striking hard. But hey PC it loyal to his coaches, he'll give them a rah rah talk. and He'll make his players chew each other out instead.. His loyalty will be the teams downfall.

It's not Lynch. He's fine. It's the OL. We're watching what might be the worst OL in NFL history. They need to completely ditch the run game. It's waste of downs. Just line up shotgun every play and hope for a prayer.

This season is over though
This loss had nothing to do with the OL.

He was kinda the whole offense this game at least. Same rush yards as Lynch on half the attempts. He's not overpaid for this year (less cap hit than Lynch), but he could be going forward.

But it did with the absurdly awful amount of rushing yards that Lynch had, right?

Right now, Wilson is scoring 1 TD per game in every game but 1 this year.

There are about 15 other QBs that can do better than that in the league now, even with this line.

What we did do is pay someone big money that is going to starve the rest of the team (like what happened to the Ravens with Flacco), assuring we won't be getting better but probably will be getting worse.

20M per year QBs need to score more than 1 TD per game. Wilson is terrible at converting possessions in scoring territory into TDs this year and that is a key reason we are struggling.

But since there isn't a big giant free agent market in competent QBs, we are pretty much stuck overpaying for the results we are getting. (note: we are not really paying him $20M this year in terms of cap hit, so this only matters if he is playing like this next year).
Where should that money be allocated? While we're at it, Sherm and Earl's contracts are a waste too. Why pay all that money for TWO db's, when they can't completely mask all other defensive defficiancies with they're complete awesomeness. Go on. Solve those problems. Where should we put that money?
The game winning TD was on both Sherm and Earl but DTM isn't throwing a hissy fit about their salaries is he? Nope not his agenda.
