What does he cost?

I'd speculate around 600K or so to finish the season. ($1M minus games missed)

The biggest beneficiaries of this signing could be Marcus Smith or Branden Jackson.

True, but IMO the biggest beneficiary is Bennett. Now that he's getting older and getting all these nagging injuries, he can't be playing 80-90% of the snaps. It's worn him down and made him even more susceptible to injuries.

I love this signing. Freeny is old, but he's so smart, savvy and will teach some of these young guys a LOT.

This 100 times this.

In 2013 when Bennett was an absolute wrecking ball he played around 550 snaps the entire season. He has been over 800 every year since. Bennett with fresh legs is huge for this team.

Nice. He’ll fit well in the rotation. Who will get released to make room for him on the roster?
They have 1-2 open spots already nobody needs to be cut.

Hopefully hes more of Kevin Williams rather than Antoine Winfield. Veteran signings are always exciting

They have got to be pushing the cap to the absolute limit with this signing-maybe they could still find a trade partner for Jeremy Lane by next week?

Freeney signed a one year deal at $588,235.00 which is pro-rated to a $361,765.00 cap hit.

This leaves us about $2.2 million under the cap with the roster as it sits today.

Why not? It's about as low risk as you can get. I don't see how anyone can be opposed to it.

Now lets get him a ring :irishdrinkers:
A SECOND ring :) - he won one with the Colts in 2007 during Super Bowl XLI.

I hate the Patriots, Packers and Colts. Not necessarily in that order. So I like to forget any rings they get

One of my favorite players who I saw play when he was a Colt.
He will help the line create pressure and he is a HOF lock.
I can't wait to see our classic line up this Sunday.

It is hard to get too excited about a 15 snap 37 yr old DE that is "going to save our SB season", but this guy is a class act and I think the real benefit is in his presence. (Just heard his presser). A few pressures and a sack or 2 would be icing on the cake.

He must either love the game or he has blown his wad to subject his body to the punishment for that amount.

I went back and they re-read the posted data. Our cap room is right, but what it looks like is he signed a $1million deal with us still owing him the $588k but a cap hit of $361k. I had originally forgot to factor in the fact that we get a vet signing discount on this contract towards the cap.
