No, it wasn't because somebody is going to pay him good money with the intention of giving him a shot at a starting job. Not as the guaranteed day one guy. But somewhere like Houston, Cleveland, Chicago, Jets and maybe a couple others.

Maulbert is dead on here.

Kap wasn't going to be a 49er this year at his current price. He either opts out or he gets released. Looks better to opt out.

Really a non-story. He could resign in SF but my money is on him being a backup somewhere.

No, because he was going to be released anyway. He lost money when he did his thing that we're not supposed to talk about, due to certain biases owners have that we're not supposed to talk about.

In any event, it's a shame, because even with his limitations as a QB, he's definitely one of the best 32 in the league.
