All this over $2M APY....just pay him already.

lol sure glad your not in charge of our cap! We just cut Fluke to save 3.3 mill. So that extra 2 Mill is equal to at least one player.

Add in having the most expensive QB in the game, the most or (2nd most) MLB in the game. A highly paid LT and it all gets complicated.
If the rumors are true, the Seahawks are offering $16M and Clowney is looking for 18M.

Imagine letting a couple of million prevent you from shoring up the biggest need, at one of the most important positions, on the best available player...
Clowney is a joke. I pray this guy doesnt return here. He isn't worth 18 mil. This dude is clearly all about himself. Clowney needs to step his game up to get paid that. His best option sign with a team in a weak division on a 1 year deal to take advantage of getting more sacks and enter the market again next year.

Yeah this "elite" pass rusher scratched out 3.5 sacks and was injured just like he is every year. Were better off
without him.

Good luck Clowney. I hope you get your money somewhere else.

This isn't a good sign...I guess UFA Tender will save us from losing a comp pick. i wonder which team is going to pick him up. Im guessing its the Browns. They cut Vernon, they save 15.5million. Clowney & Garrett would be scary.
Well Clowney and Watt couldn’t be any scarier and that team didn’t do anything. I think not paying him is the smart move. If he comes for 10-12 a year for 2-3 years that’s fine. He will always be hurt and only play 10-13 games a year. No way would he ever live up to a 20 mil a year contract.

To be fair they hardly played together. Clowney first 2 season he was injured. Then when he finally got healthy JJ Watts was injured 2 years in a row. Clowney became a pro bowl player 3 years straight. The final year he was w/ Watt's they both made the pro bowl and they both played great.

I watched Clowney games last year and yeah his stats dont look spectacular at all but man he was so disruptive. Awesome run stopper too. All while being held and double team most of the time.

Without clowney, we don’t have anyone on DL that demands double teaming.

Not until it's official, but it has felt like they moved on for a minute. I'm still hopeful, but at this point, I have no idea what to think. I doubt they are gonna' just sit on their hands though, especially with the $ they just freed up.

I still think Ryan Kerrigan wouldn't be a bad option to trade for.

I’m a quality over quantity type. Re-signing Clowney has been and still is the teams most important move. Though it doesn’t look good I can still hope.

I think Reed made a savvy business move. If Clowney doesn’t come back he gets his number back.
If Clowney does come back Reed gets PAID AGAIN to give up the number.

I find it so funny that people criticize players for trying to get the biggest contract they can. In a thread RIGHT above two about players who have been cut to clear up cap and the amount we save.

Pete and John?

According to John, Reed didn’t have the team’s ok to switch, but he went ahead to announce it without taking the delicate process into consideration.

What’s wrong with him?

Dumb for Reed but good sign that they still care about getting Clowney.

Reed will never grow into a team leader, or you don’t want him to be your team’s leader. You just got your huge contract, be a good boy for crying out loud.

I think I understand what you're trying to say, but this phrase in this context comes across as, at the least, racially insensitive — perhaps even worse. Please tell me that wasn't your intent.
