I have to say I was impressed with him the way he performed tonight. His instinctiveness, speed and hitting ability was good to see. A few of the plays reminded me of how Earl comes in out of nowhere and missiles himself at the ball carrier to make the hit. If he keeps it up he will be in the LOB rotation.

Yes, very happy with his play last night. Bailey was the standout on defense right behind Clark.

Dion was a RS safety his freshman year at USC then was switched to Sam LB due to depth issues. He then moved back to safety for one year before leaving for the draft. He was on the Hawks scout team last year. I'm not surprised he's still learning the position, especially at the NFL level. He has potential though, and he's obviously not afraid to hit.

That makes now 2 nice preseason games for Bailey. This guy is going to grab a roster spot and if Pete and John get that feeling that Dion is a keeper, then Kam better watch out. Doubtful but it's "always compete" with them and if you ain't there to compete, well.....

He was out of position a lot, allowing yards after the catch to Maclin and Davis. He also had a missed tackle.

Ronald Martin, on the other hand, excites me as a safety prospect. He may be raw, but he is also bigger, stronger, and faster than Bailey.

Yeah, measurables tell us all we need to know. Just look at how much "non-prototypical" Russell Wilson sucks...

They are pretty similar in terms of measurables, it's more about how they move, Martin's aggressiveness and explosiveness.

Also, the fact that Martin hasn't allowed any yards after contact or any positive yards at all in the preseason, stopping Williams for a two-yard loss yesterday. Other than the dropped pick, which was actually a great play by him to get his hands on it, he hasn't made many mistakes.

Kam has me spoiled for life.

I don't envision Bailey hurdling the line of scrimmage to block a field goal, or blowing up a 325 lb. pulling offensive tackle , or embedding a permanent emotional scar on a pro bowl tight end. Bailey might be a competent replacement, but I will never watch the SS position in the same way again.

Yeah Bailey has left a really positive impression so far. I would be really surprised if he didn't win the back up SS spot.

Worthless post of the day.

If you're going to dog a post, at least make it relevant and add something to the argument.

It was not so much the arm tackle that concerned me here, (as Bailey is typically a solid tackler) it was the coverage awareness and positioning.

You could say "it was just one game," but the same kind of thing happened to Bailey last week in terms of an inability to diagnose and cover his zone assignments. Terrell and Bailey are both out of position too much for my taste.

That said, Bailey is a solid tackler. He had a ton of tackles in college while playing mostly SLB. He just has never been an adequate player in coverage, as he lacks coverage instincts and short area quickness. But maybe he will turn into the safety equivalent of SLB Mike Morgan, taking up a roster spot for four years while playing almost exclusively on special teams.
