My point is that the NFL keeps flexible scheduling (in part) to ensure no team gets a competitve advantages based on kickoff times
Which they flat out went back on here
So they should scrap the whole idea if they are going to renag on it when it fits something they want more
The point of the Week 18 competitive advantage rule is to schedule every game, (outside of SNF), at the same time for all teams who are competing for the same playoff seeding. This is to prevent a hypothetical situation where the Patriots could rest their starters in an afternoon game because the results of the morning games meant they had already clinched the #7 seed. In 1 season a playoff spot came down to margin of victory in the final game. The start time for the Bengals Week 18 game has yet to be determined because of this policy.
If the Packers game hadn't been selected for SNF then both the Packers and Seahawks games would take place simultaneously in the afternoon slot.
