Well, regardless of the comparisons to McDowell or whomever, everybody is different. If this young man is a high character guy who is simply misunderstood right now, I want Pete and John to select him.

If he shows up to the meeting and is a total punk and acting like he doesn't want to be there, then pass.

Again, that's just my person opinion on the matter, and I hope it's alright I have posted that.

Last draft was excellent, they didn't take chances on risky players and got absolute studs...and people want to go away from that after exactly 1 year because of "potential"? Are those the same people that AREN'T complaining about Malik McDowell?

I just don't understand it. I'll be a little disappointed if they pick Carter at 5 because of all the talk and smokescreens about going away from risky players. However, I will say this: There is a reason why Pete and John are still around, and last year proved it pretty well. So again, I will be disappointed if they take Carter at 5, however I will trust them to know what they're doing and hope they can unlock Carter's potential to a whole 'nother level.

At the end of the day I'm a Seahawks fan and will root for my team no matter what.

My "irrational" take in weighing the difference between Richardson and Carter is that I see both being a matter of ceiling potential. Based on our most urgent need Carter wins because his potential could make him a high value rotation player in the near term, while with Richardson we KNOW he isn't going to deserve playing time in the first year and quite possibly the second year.
Anderson wins over both those but will be off the board at #5.
I do not see how getting a lesser player with a lower pick equals higher value, unless that lesser player turns into a better player than the top picks do. Both things happen. Pick your poison. My poison is to try to improve at my team's most urgent need.

Meh. Still not sold. Interesting that so many are willing to overlook his lack of production and red flags, but focus on nothing but that when it comes to someone like Richardson, who is just as risky, but has a near unlimited ceiling. Not sure why that is.
Georgia rotates their defensive lineman to keep them fresh. It's effective. A statline is not going to tell the entire whole story. In this instance, you really have to watch the film & zero in on him to get the full picture.

Talent wise, he's the most dominate defensive player in this draft. It's not close.

I mean the guy is getting comparisons to Warren Sapp.

It's not so much a matter of overlooking the red flags as it is knowing that P&J will leave no stone unturned in evaluating his every breath from time of inception/conception until today. They will know more about the fat guy than he knows about himself. They aren't just reading chat forums for their information, I'm sure they have talked to everyone who has ever had a conversation with him, everyone he has ever played with or against, and every coach he has come in contact with. Knowing that there are no sure things in life, I have complete faith in their decision. I will welcome whomever they pick, although I'm still wanting a defensive star before a QB.
if he were to arrive in the NW, he won't be the big man on campus anymore, he will be dealing with many older and wiser veterans who are looking to going to the playoffs/SB, and will not coddle Jr. They will make a man out of him or he will be down the road. My guess is he will become a team player and a integral part of a championship team.
If and when he matures and plays how we're hoping and expecting, he will be a force to be reckoned with, the missing length.

Coach Hurtt: Hey Jalen, it's time to do some wind sprints.

Jalen: Wind sprints? Are you kidding? I just got paid. I'm trying to go to Vegas this weekend. Still got bags to pack.

Coach Hurtt: You want to be a starter on this team, or what?

Jalen: Shoot I do coach, but I have this new interest in ATVs. Plus, I want to play some Call of Duty tonight. I got hobbies outside of football. Work-life balance, you know what I mean?

Coach Hurtt: Yeah, I know what you mean.

Bobby enters the practice field: Hey Jalen. You know what time it is.

Jalen: But Bobby, I'm tired bro. Need a break, ya feel me?

Bobby: I ain't playin...

Jalen: Ok you got it, Bobby. I'll run some sprints right now.

Bobby: And give me 150 push-ups right after.

Jalen: Sir, yes sir!

Work ethic can be fixed (see Cortez), talent is genetic. And his level of talent is incredible. So I think they should roll the dice.
It can also lead to a Jamarcus Russell situation. I'm not arguing they shouldn't, I'm arguing they won't because it goes everything they keep repeating is important to them.

More intel is better than less intel.

I still can't see any way the Hawks draft Carter. And I'm not talking about the car accident stuff. I'm talking about him being utterly out of shape for consecutive college football playoff seasons. Then that issue being echoed at his pro day.

I've been wrong before. If he is drafted, that means they're confident they can motivate him.

Not even in the same stratosphere talent wise. But ok, I'll entertain you. Let me give you a list of players who also had red flags coming out of college.

Tyrann Mathieu: Booted from LSU after reports of multiple failed drug tests.

Janoris Jenkins: A talent perhaps on par with Vernon Hargreaves III, Jenkins got dismissed by the Gators after multiple arrests, including fighting and drug possession.

Jameis Winston: His college resume included an entire gamut of missteps, from the petty (shouting an untoward phrase in the student union, a BB gun complaint) to the face-palm type (shoplifting crab legs) and the downright serious (a rape allegation that never led to formal charges). But he still earned the No. 1 overall draft pick and became NFL Rookie of the Year in 2015 after accounting for 28 touchdowns in his first season.

Randy Moss: Dismissed from Notre Dame before he ever enrolled due to a high school fight, Moss subsequently lost his scholarship at Florida State due to a positive test for marijuana. He did not show up to the NFL combine in ’98 — some speculated it was to avoid a drug test — but still became a first-round pick as the Minnesota Vikings took him at No. 21 overall. Moss produced more than 15,000 receiving yards and 156 touchdowns at the NFL level as one of the greatest receivers of all-time.

Warren Sapp: Days before the NFL draft, reports surfaced of multiple failed drug tests (cocaine and marijuana). Sapp still insists an anonymous source fabricated the reports to hurt his draft stock, and Tampa Bay selected him at No. 12 overall in 1995. A seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Sapp made 96.5 sacks during his Hall of Fame NFL career, earning a spot on the NFL’s All-Decade team for both the ’90s and ’00s.

Micah Parsons: Was suspended from his first high school for allegedly “inciting a riot” in 2016 — he yelled “Gun!” while police were in the cafeteria. He was also named in an accusation by former Nittany Lions defensive back Isaiah Humphries about an alleged previous sexual assault stemming from the PSU locker room

In regards to Micah Parsons, according to NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein,
"Parsons could slip due to character concerns," Zierlein said, "but his explosiveness, range and versatility would be hard to pass on with his high-impact potential."

Imagine passing on a talent like Micah Parsons (Jalen Carter) because you were afraid he'd be a Malik McDowell?
