There is a really dumb semantics argument going on here. Look, I think much lower of Geno than a lot of people here do, but to pretend we can easily replace him for the same price or lower is a foolish argument. Kirk Cousins is the only guy on the FA list that is a clear upgrade from Geno Smith. Baker Mayfield is probably the next one on the list. The thing with Geno, is due to his contract structure we could easily cut him. You sign a Cousins and you're going to be shelling out A LOT of money. Baker Mayfield is also likely going to be in for a pretty large pay day.
Tanking is not an option for John Schneider. We don't know what kind of leash he has with Jody Allen.
Geno is not the future, but the fact is we do have him at a relative value compared to his production. He’s never going to get us anywhere of note, but he will buy us time until the right QB comes along.
