Exactly 8-9/9-8 here we come! Third place forever.
Exactly. I'm so excited for more mediocrity! Getting a qb who can win 13 games and a sb is so overrated and is really hard and risky, so why bother. I bet the rest of the NFC West is quaking in their cleats at this glorious news! Awesome!

May the spirit of Matt Flynn haunt your dreams tonight

Saying he's your qb right now for opening day, doesn't mean things are written in stone, particularly if he's playing poorly.

Reassuring geno that they want him to be the guy doesn't mean "he's it for 18 weeks and we'll see where he lands"

Maelstorm has a point it's not like Geno is Kyler Murray or Justin Fields but he's not the answer against the Rams or 49ers. We don't have to get stupid and move up and draft a quarterback at the top of the 1st round but why not trade down a little and get a 2nd round pick and get someone like Rattler or maybe Nix and see how they work out.

Well, a lot of people here don't think we will or should draft a qb, in which case he would be pretty much it for 18 weeks. I guess we'll see.

I can't really argue with people who don't think we will, John doesn't have a history of taking QB's high, but honestly I just don't think anyone knows

I'd love to know WHEN the seahawks should draft a qb from the "shouldnt" crowd

I agree that this is the most prudent move. I think Maye is worth moving up for if you can get a better deal than the previous few trade ups, but I think that's really unlikely. I think we grab a guy we really like this year and plan on him taking the reins either next year or the year after when Geno's contract expires, depending on at what point that young QB can win a legit camp competition against Geno.

Uhmm, No.

Nobody wants to see Geno here next year except you.

That poll is such crap it's not worth even discussing. Just consider the source.
It's a Seattle sports radio host putting a poll up on Seahawks twitter, not a news item. Source doesn't matter. This isn't Salk's opinion. It's a poll with nearly 5800 responses.

Regardless, it's a bullshit claim that I'm alone in thinking Geno should be brought back.

Huh. Looks like about 85% of the 5704 fans who responded to this poll disagree with that.

Looks like only 25% want to keep him and start him.

So, the majority want him for a backup next season.

If he wasn't a cap hit, I'm sure those numbers change quite a bit.

Just face it, you are in the minority.

The majority of fans think we're drafting someone better than Geno. The majority of fans are statistically disadvantaged.

The majority of the other fans think geno is going to somehow improve at 34 years old, with the same weapons and an incredibly inexperienced coaching staff.

But I'm sure age had NOTHING to do with his regression, and will be back in 2022 form.

And then since we aren't drafting a qb, we're on 35 y/o geno contract year in literally the same position except he's older and it's a significantly worse draft class from a qb perspective compared to this time last year when both Caleb and maye would have gone first.

Brilliant dog, top shelf

If we had a top 10 defense then I'd be just as hungry to replace Geno with a top draft pick.

Instead, we had a bottom 10 defense and a top half offense. We don't need Geno to improve -- we need to get significantly better on defense.

I 100% disagree that this QB draft class is anything speical. Caleb Williams and then a bunch of guys who are getting picked too high.

Also Geno is going to be 35, not 40. I'm not looking to sign him to a 7 year deal. We're talking about competing in 2024. A team that went 9-8 with a bad defense. Obsession with drafting a QB when half the teams in the playoffs didn't draft their QB.

Eagles
Steelers
Bills
Packers
Cowboys
Dolphins
Chiefs
Texans
9ers
Ravens

Bucs
Rams
Lions
Browns

Hmmm, guess the groupings buddy not quite half.... also worth noting the only team on the bottom that beat a team from the top, is because the eagles fell off a cliff

Wanna play this game again with how well QB's 35+ did?

It's the same as the QBs over 30, 0-2

Stafford/flacco

What was your point again? Because I assume you didn't mean to point out that 12/14 QB's weren't even 31, that actually surprised me because that is wildly more than I assumed and I already disagreed, so keep going I can't wait to see what's next

But you're in the distinct minority of the fanbase that isn't purely casual or thinks Salk knows anything about football or thinks Geno walks on water. There is a reason he has no trade market and it's because a portion of the fanbase and Carroll totally overvalues him Rich Gannon he is not.

There is a really dumb semantics argument going on here. Look, I think much lower of Geno than a lot of people here do, but to pretend we can easily replace him for the same price or lower is a foolish argument. Kirk Cousins is the only guy on the FA list that is a clear upgrade from Geno Smith. Baker Mayfield is probably the next one on the list. The thing with Geno, is due to his contract structure we could easily cut him. You sign a Cousins and you're going to be shelling out A LOT of money. Baker Mayfield is also likely going to be in for a pretty large pay day.

Tanking is not an option for John Schneider. We don't know what kind of leash he has with Jody Allen.

Geno is not the future, but the fact is we do have him at a relative value compared to his production. He’s never going to get us anywhere of note, but he will buy us time until the right QB comes along.

Exactly ie. casual fans that don't follow the draft or have any idea what situation the team is actually in beyond game day.

So like any sane person expect more of the same 8-9/9-8 mediocrity at some point you have to take a risk and start drafting quarterbacks already. You can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results that's the very definition of insanity.

Geno is a known quantity and we know his ceiling he's good enough to keep us treading water but not good to make us a serious contender unless we suddenly became the 1985 Bears or similar.

2021, Trevor lawrence is the only one who works out.
2022, Brock Purdy, last of the last.
2023, CJ Stroud.

By all means draft someone, I like penis given his history with two of the now coaches. But theres No reason to trade up.
