The environment around the games is chaos. Zika being front and center. The fact that we'll be sending millions of people into ground zero of the virus only to catch it, hop on a plane and head elsewhere is seriously concerning.

Then theres the un finished buildings, the foot bridge which was finished but collapsed shortly after opening, the gang war fair. The dead bodies washing up in the volley ball beach...........

But with all that said. I do LOVE the Olympics, I understand the ones who said they aren't as excited any longer. And your right, now that im old and jaded it's not as special as when I was a kid, but what is?

i'll be glued to the TV, watching with my boys and seeing the excitement in their eyes. U S A. U S A U S A U S A!

I never watch the Olympics. After watching football and basketball for most of the year, the Olympics is just boring and slow.

Current Ducks wr Devon Allen just won the Olympic trials in 110 meter hurdles. 3rd fastest time in the world this year, has a good chance to medal. He ran 13.03 which would have won him a silver medal in London. Pretty amazing, he tore up his knee in the football playoff against Florida state a year and a half ago.

My wife & I were in Fortaliza (sp), Brazil, (at the tip of the Eastern bump out of So. America, South of Rio) a couple of years ago on a Rome to Lauderdale trans-Atlantic cruise. We will NEVER go to Brazil again. We were required to obtain a Visa (about $250-$300 for two people as I recall), even though we were only in port for less than 12 hours.
Prior to this trip we wern't aware that Brazil had a visa requirement. Olympic fans are in for a shock there.

Additionally, The City was extremely dirty & crime filled. 6 passengers and 8 crew members were reportedly robbed and beaten up in just the few hours we were there (some, for walking on the "wrong" side of the street). They appearantly do not accept US-$ or Euro's anywhere, so you have to change money to the local currency with only a few offical money changers. The people we met were often very discourteous to say the least. The Olympic Games should have never been booked there, It's a pretty shitty destination and again, we'll never go back. Shit in the water is only a small problem compared to the many others of this backwater country.

Yeah, that seems extremely unwise. I'm having a hard time thinking of a better way to spread a virus globally. Granted, I am not terribly educated on the Zika virus.

Opening Ceremonies were very impressive.

Too bad NBC is tape-delaying everything even though there is only a one hour time difference from the East Coast.

The CBC carries everything live (if yr cable co. includes it)

US Women's indoor volleyball was fun to watch yesterday. Well done I say. Puerto Rico wasn't half bad either...

I haven't been too excited about the Olympics the last few times, but I have to say...seeing my 4 year old and 6 year old get excited about them and cheering for USA while I explain how each event works has been pretty awesome.

Same. My older kids seem to have a genuine interest in the games. Watched all kinds of volleyball, the female bike race, swimming, white water rafting, handball, water polo, a bit of the male gymnastics, even some field hockey. We've actually steered away from the "traditional" team sports like soccer and basketball. It's been fun. Swimming especially.

Women's gymnastics was fantastic. I watched the live stream today. USA! USA!
I am enjoying the swimming too. Women's basketball is more fun to watch than the men IMO. I caught some of the equestrian today and watched two former racehorses compete. Totally cool. There was one horse(who was not a former racehorse)that was 18 years old competing. Awesomness.
I also cannot wait for Track and Field to start.

Enjoy what you saw with the Final Five you'll never see it's like again thanks to the new rules coming in 2017.

1. 4 person teams
2. 3 up no drop
3. Up to 2 event specialists
4. 2 per country

Put all that together and all you get is the best unable to complete and a competition more subject to random and swingy results with a lower overall level of talent. All because FIGA is after money given to get those 2 extra spots the gymnasts have to complete in even more official FIGA events. If they would have left it at 6 without the 2 per nation stupidity you get an actual competition and not some participation abomination.

These games have been great so far without without all the gloom and doom predicted in the original post.

It's mind-numbingly stupid. I have Comcast internet, but can't watch live streaming online because I don't have their TV service. I have Dish for TV, but it's delayed so badly that I have to go to bed pretty much when the 'prime' events are replayed for us. Fell asleep just before 11 last night and the women's 4x200 relay still hadn't been shown.

So I VPN and use CBC's website. Live everything, I don't need to be a subscriber of anything, and I can watch whatever event I want. BBC is the same way. America is the worst at broadcasting. It's embarrassing.

Blame the Execs trying to squeeze prime time rating and advertising, a little National Pride would go a long ways, too bad they and the other 1 percent that control the Networks have no National Pride, just International Greed.

Didn't always used to be this way, they used to show it live and then have a tape replay or a highlights reel of events that we were doing condensed.
