Stemming from the PUP situation and agreement to release, does this count as a free agent loss or as a cut? I'd think it's important to distinguish in order to determine comp picks next year?

He was released. Released players do not count in compensatory consideration.

I think the dodging of arbitration for red the greatest impetus in his release. However, he was #4 at best on the DC if Maxwell was re-signed and that is something the team wants to get done. If so the team would not have offered him a deal he would sign and he’d have been an unhappy player here.
