Sidney Rice to Retire

How does the signing bonus work when a player retires before even making it to camp? Does Rice get to keep the $150,000?

In Seattle things never materialized for him , Injuries really took a toll. I think he averaged -17 YAC per season . :sarcasm_on: seriously he would just catch and fall . everytime. which ultimately led to many of his concussions.

Though I will miss Sidney Rice , I watched the Vikings(brothers favorite team) during his magical season with Farve . Sidney Rice caught everything thrown his way and really was the Master at tip-toe catch. I hope we sign him as a Receivers coach .

There is no guarantee now they keep 6 WR's. They could keep 5 WR's and 4 TE's instead, with the 4 th TE being one of those pass-catching specialist "move" TE types. Lockette still has to battle hard to make this team.

For such a big guy, he always seemed to have a knack for getting the living snot knocked out of him after a catch. It was painful to watch what he took for the team, sometimes. Good for him to get out sort-of-on-his-own-terms.

This too me will be the lasting memory of Rice, greatest play IMO as a Seahawk, that game was so great and to see him pull down the winning TD was spectacular. Honorable mention would be his TD against the Bears in OT.

Those 2 plays will always remind me of Rice, I wish him nothing but the best.

I loved those catches too. There was absolutely no reason for him to fall down for either catch though.

This is a perfect example of how great our team is. Sidney leaves, and all of us send him off with well-wishes and good hearts. We have the personnel to take his place and not miss a beat; and frankly, be better off for his contributions and departure. Our FO and coaching staff is, (rightfully so whether the media would admit it or not), the class of the league. Good on you Sidney...thanks, and happy trails!

I have nothing against Rice as a person, but looking at $$$ vs production he is easily one of the worst signings in Hawks history.

I know it isnt "his fault" that he has pretty much been injured ever since we signed him, but it is bad having expensive players that cannot be counted on.

Whenever you have an injury-prone player it hurts the team-building process because you don't necessarily want to go out and pay big $$$ for his replacement and you also don't want to go into the season relying on him to be healthy.

I know that most other people on here would disagree, but I think injury-prone players should be cut/released/waived so that we can focus on the players that will actually suit up for us.

You sign a player depending on contract you owe them money, you just don't cut them and not pay them, if you worked someplace and you got hurt and your employer said to bad your gone and no unemployment or L & I how well would that be received. Might as well go back to early Rome and Gladiators and Slaves.

Better yet your girlfriend or wife says you are gone because you are unemployed and or don't give me the attention in the sack you once did. I am replacing you with a younger model that has a higher income and can perform up to my standards.

He was more available, produced more, but yeah he wasn't on our Super Bowl team so he is less fondly remembered. This is just a classic case of winning cures all.

Considering Branch played in a Pass first offense with Holmgren and Sidney is in a run first offense I would say didn't perform and show up is relevant, Rice performed better just as well in less games played. You sighting one fumble recovery as the benchmark to Branch's fame, not acknowledging the game winning catches of Rice, clutch receptions or leadership, coaching he did while hurt.

I am a bandwagon fan though, been around since the bandwagon was assembled in 1976, been on these boards since 1998 what ever form they were in.
