No to Nix. His ceiling is Derek Carr imo. I'm not spending a 1st on Nix. Based on what we know of John, I doubt he would also.

There are 4 QB's that should go in the 1st round in my mind. All 4 could go in the first 10 picks.
Really? What is it you think Nix can’t do? Your 4 will be out of reach without trading up.

Nix has a lower ceiling.

I'm all for trading up if given the opportunity. The goal should be to get a franchise QB long-term with a higher ceiling. Nix isn't that guy.

What do you see as Nix’s deficiency?

He's an average athlete with an average arm by NFL standards. Guys like Penix & Caleb Williams are in a different stratosphere as far as arm talent goes. They can stretch the field & make just about any throw imaginable.

We also know what type of QB that John & Pete value from a trait's perspective.

He is not Josh Allen in arm strength, but I’ve seen him throw it deep and accurately. I think he’s underrated, and so you are probably right that he goes in second round, but I’m predicting he will be a better NFL QB than some of those drafted ahead of him. It’s always a guessing game with QBs.

Yep, which is why I'd wish they'd start guessing. They don't even try.

Nix is a good college QB. Who has benefited quite a bit from Oregon's scheme. But I see him having more of difficult time at the next level. Which is often the case for a lot of guys who go from college to the Pro's.

I project he'll go somewhere on day 2 of the draft.
I think Caleb Williams is overrated. Especially from a mental toughness point. When the going got tough, he just wilted. Just a gut feeling, he'll be another one of those #1 draft picks that just didn't rise to the expectations. Baker Mayfield, Johnny Manziel, Jamarcus Russell, Jameis Winston, and Kyler Murray types.

Bo Nix is good but he's not Michael Penix. Penix is the most NFL ready QB in the draft. He's also got good experience in playing in the tough games (lots of top 25 competition) and grinding out wins. Of course, Nix wasn't throwing to Odunze, McMillan, and Polk either but I believe Penix's ability also helped those guys on the receiving side too. He made them better.

Offensive line depth in this draft is insane.
Nothing wrong with taking the best one available in the 1st. But if a qb is there that you like, absolutely.

I want Penix but only if Seattle has a good offensive line.

Seattle hasn’t shown that it can build a great offensive line and I’d like to see Penix thrive even if it’s not with Seattle.

I am a UW and Penix guy, and like to see Penix healthy and the way Carroll has no luck/skills building any trenches is worrisome.

I don't see how I can't choose other in this circumstance. It is entirely dependent on a million variables about the individual prospects, their red flags, their strengths, their attitude, how expensive they'll be, who else is on the board, what the depth of the draft looks like, etc etc etc.

If the QBs we have to choose from without giving someone 3 firsts are, like, McCarthy and Nix? Yeah dude, I'm sticking with Geno and trying to move his cap hit around while taking a good non-QB positional prospect.
Ah, the old "Bird in The Hand" gig, eh? ;-)

Bo has more games than Penix. I wouldn’t bet a dime that Penix will be very much better than him.

Most people that win the lottery end up broke after a few years. Doesn’t matter who Pete drafts, QB or other, because it’s Pete.

I'll trust John Schneider on this one. He's the one that drafted Russell Wilson when everyone else had him as a 3rd day pick and was all over Mahomes and Allen when they were virtual nobodies.
But then they have rested on their laurels and not drafted another one, in any round, in 10+ years. Curious to me.

I hit other, cuz I'd be fine if they picked one in the 2nd if it was the right guy.

Draft OL, DL and LB. Geno and/or Drew will be fine if we can get an Oline that can both run block and pass block. A good run game will open up the passing game. The offense needs to be more balanced. And then there's the D. It's obvious where the holes are. QB isn't high on my priority list. Certainly not high enough to give up picks to move up.

Fyi, your bias is showing.

There isn't a guy in this draft who throws a better ball. Pinpoint accuracy to all levels. But is innately accurate on throws down the field. His feel within the pocket is top notch. Penix will be taken much earlier than Nix. Because he's simply a better prospect.
